so basically for you,speedrunning is a job and there's no fun with it?
Now that you're talking about a speedrun existing at all rather than taking up a full category, being "unnecessary" does become a pretty weak argument for a community hobby
"Unnecessary" means the board could go with or without it

what if someone doesn't know how to do a specific star? there aren't many people who can do most of the hardest tricks in a speedrun and they obviously need to practice with it,and you? you feel like a category like this is still useless? also who the heck said that ALL categories can be fun and is good practice? getting a star with a difficult trick 10 times IS a good way to practice but 12,27 or 107 stars seem like a pretty lazy idea,it doesn't make sense and it isn't even a good way to practice (seriously how did you come up with these?). I've read your comment enough times and my opinions WILL NOT CHANGE!
"doing a category isn't about learning a hard trick!" 10X cannonless already does it! but even if it does:people do this category to practice cannonless,it is supposed to be fun,but if we ask a similiar one,it is useless. And even if cannonless isn't about practice anymore,why would a subcategory like it be stupid? I mean,it isn't needed but then (like i said before),even other categories quite dumb (that are on this category extensions already) will not be necessary in your opinion! Seriously let it go,stop caring about these threads! if you feel like they're not needed,just ignore them! Your pals, (if they are even,don't know) Twitchname and Conmangamer22 (atleast for now) stopped being against others in the SM64 speedrunning community!

ok this is just childish. @lostontheinternet clearly has no interest in learning what the opposing side has to say and just wants to argue so honestly not getting in an argument with him is probably the best option. Since I'm already posting I might as well put my opinion out there and I agree with Dumpdome. Not everything needs to be a category. Category extensions are for unique runs of a game that wouldn't make sense on the normal boards, NOT random things anyone can do just to practice. Categories are not and have never been to practice. Some categories can help reinforce muscle memory for other categories but that's only a side effect. Making a category on the basis of it being good for practice is how you end up with 100 categories.
10x singlestar is a unique run that wouldn't make sense on the normal boards. It is about showing off (not just practicing!) one's consistency on a strat that doesn't have a place on the singlestar leaderboards because there is a very inconsistent strat faster than it.
I listened to why 10x cannonless was added in the first place (it was fun to see who could first complete an inconsistent strat 10x), but it should also be noted that 10x cannonless remained one category on the board to this day, mostly because some runners like the unique nature of this category
While making a category on what's being unique, fun, short, and happens to be good for practice may be how you end up with 100 categories (doubt it'd be that many), making a SUBCATEGORY for those reasons is how you end up with 1 category, and that's a very viable number of categories imo.
Someone actually compared these unique consistency categories to 12 star, 27 star, and 107 star. Those "X stars" categories are not only completely arbitrary from the numbers (no reason to run 107 star over 106 star), but also their gameplay isn't unique in the slightest as they would just be more remixes of 120 star, 90 star, and 0 star segments. "10x singlestar", for the right singlestars (Cannonless, Owlless, WDW elevator) is unique not only in its unique idea of including a segment 10 times, but also in what segment is used that might not be viable in singlestar nor in one's full-game attempts.
And with all that, there was still never the suggestion to add a subcategory for a 10x singlestar people weren't already running, so there wouldn't be any empty subcategories.
As to why we took so long to reflect on dumpdome's points properly, it's probably because he took very long to clearly state anything more than "it's not necessary to make a full category for each star"

Let's just pretend this category request never existed,okay?
I can't but agree that lost has a slightly annoying tone to himself, let's hope it'll go away with age. On the other hand, I don't see how that should invalidate anything of what I, @SilverCross, @TheCrit, @andrewmcfly, @Habble, @Thomkar, and @HUMANRAC3 said on the first page of this thread (if any of you changed your position, feel free to make another statement)

@Mars02 what i said wasn't a misconception! dumpdome just doesn't want to admit that what he said meant that i (in his opinion) am a kid,or a dumb person!
