Floppy Version (Amiga)

Hi all,

I did finish a run on the Amiga for Book One. Due to that is the floppy version of the game, it is different to the CD-ROM version.

  • Most annoying is that you cant (or I dont know how) skip the text in the cutscenes, this adds a lot of minutes to the run.
  • The walking speed seems to be much faster
  • There are loading times between the screen transitions
  • The Cave Section is different, iirc there is a fireberry bush missing so you can only reach the river of lava as a wisp You can check out the map here: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/562667-the-legend-of-kyrandia-book-one/faqs/55827

So I just wanted to ask how we go on with the floppy version?

  • Same Leaderboard ?
  • New Category on the Leaderboard ?
  • New Game added to the Kyrandia-Series ?

You can check out my run here:

So what do you think?

Cheers and Thanks MilkToast

Hello.

Sorry for the late reply.

In my opinion, at this point all the runs belong to the same leaderboard with a proper Platform and Emulation variables assigned. I've added you run to the leaderboard.

Creating a new category for Amiga platform would immediately raise a question of creating separate categories for emulation / real hardware environments. So, a separate category for each of real MS-DOS, MS-DOS emulation, real Amiga, Amiga emulation? It seems like too much considering how few Kyrandia runs out there. It is generally known that a ScummVM emulation renders fastest runs, so people who want top times would opt to use it either way.

I guess I could create a global separation of the leaderboard on CD-ROM and floppy versions of the game but all the differences between all the versions of the game have to be checked since there is also a floppy MS-DOS version, FM Towns disc version, Mac and PC-98 too. It will become a mess and a bunch of empty categories quickly.

Also, speaking to the differences in Kyrandia versions that you described. I'm not an Amiga platform expert but some of those might stem from the fact that it's being emulated. It would be interested to see how the game behaves on a real Amiga hardware.

Hi,

no worries :)

I am totally fine with being on the current lb, as long as you can see on what System I am using. I was just listing those 3 Options because I encountered them already here on src (communities handling such cases different in my experience).

There is no need for a seperation of the lb on system level - agreed. I would suggest that the only option to seperate the lb would be floppy and cd-rom (because there are some differences - mainly Caves and Dialogskip). But as long as not more runners finish this game we can postpone this discussion.

I was trying to find out all the differences about floppy and cd-rom (maybe as you mentioned there is also a difference between Amiga/MS-DOS Emulated/Real Hardware) I would try to collect all those information as soon as this will become more relevant in some distant future.

So overall thx for adding my run to the current lb I am fine with it.
