PayToWin has a lot of really sketchy times

Why was this verified? https://www.speedrun.com/mkw/run/zn8x548z I thought we were going to be enforcing video requirement? It seems Jcool is against this because he verifies everything from runs with load times that are too good to be legit, any run with no video and even runs with incorrect submission data. PayToWin needs to start recording and I think he should have some of his times deleted inlcuding especially the 100% run. I know how we can fix this issue and most future issues: 1. Video requirement for every run, requiring only within a certain time for video will just be open to competition to get the closest to that time or the worst last place as seen on the Mario Odyssey leaderboards. 2. Most importantly, new mods. Remove Croco, Tyler and Jcool and add at least Javi as a mod. Francesco and I could also moderate but Javi has been trying for so long and I think he deserves mod. As for PayToWin's other times, take a look at the ones done before his 100% run: https://www.speedrun.com/user/PayToWin Pretty interesting how this has been going on for a year and no one until now has noticed.

Please dear god, listen to him @whichever mod sees this. The moderation of this game is a fucking nightmare and nothing is ever done about it. All we need to do is add one god damn mod that actually cares about the game, like Javi, Frikkinfriks, or me, and the game would be in much better shape, but for whatever reason there's always something stopping that from happening.

I would also be interested in moderating, I have a huge passion for this game and have been playing it for years. If not, I totally understand.

I have no idea who you are and I've never seen you around, I'd still mod you without question because anyone could mod better than the fucking 5 current mods that there are.

I have just been running other games lately, I am going to come back to mario kart soon though.

Stop being so harsh, otherwise you won't have a chance at moderating. They look for people who are very patient. Sure I don't run this game, I played it before, but I'm generally speaking about becoming a proper moderator, and that is patience and without violently speaking, do not talk badly about the current mods, sure in some instances they do not seem like they care, but I guarantee you if you keep acting super aggressive you're just asking to be denied. Patience my friends.

I am not saying the moderators are doing a bad job. But if any help is needed, then I am willing to take part.

You do make some good points though

I'm not implying that you're being aggressive, all you did ( @Crack ) was just offer to help by becoming a moderator. My response to that will also take time because it seems to me you have been around for a long time with this community so you have a clear chance (also relating to the fact you seem patient enough). As for other people who are completely being aggressive (into becoming moderator), is very disrespectful to the current moderators (by specifically telling them that "anyone could mod better than the fucking 5 current mods that there are"). I'm looking at you @Frikkinfriks14 . Not a good idea.

@Hydro stfu bitch you don't even know how long shit like this has gone on for with no fix, I couldn't even care less if I got mod, I'm just offering to help since I know what needs to be fixed and what others have requested. Also don't give me any of this "proper moderator" bs because I moderate a series and a semi active game (keyword: "moderate" as in I've done something for the game or series) so I know how to moderate a game. I would like to add that PayToWin has no excuse to have no recorded runs for a year straight, he's streamed and has a working webcam that's at least 480p so the runs are clearly fake or at least extremely suspicious.

That's one of the main reasons why I haven't even bothered to run this game in ages. Moderation is a God damn nightmare. Mods are mods for a reason. They need to do their job and actually check what they are verifying. 3 of the current mods have been shown many times that they were approving obvious invalid runs that literally took only five seconds to tell that. It confuses the hell out of me that no one seems to care about this? Such a good game shouldn't have such shit speedrun community leaders.

when nobody even mentions me to be mod FeelsBadMan

in all seriousness tho this is some bs and either FakeToWin's times need to be removed until he provides video evidence, new mods need to replace the mods who either fuck up or don't do anything, or both

If I could I'd mod everyone here except for Hydro tbh.

If this thread doesn't lead to some kind of change, we should probably just create a separate leaderboard on another site. SR.com mods are supposed to listen and serve the community (i.e. mods do what the community says, the community doesn't do what the mods say), and we never see that in this leaderboard. Also, I have no clue why you're trying to tell others what to do regarding a situation in a community you're not involved in at all @Hydro .

Why mod me, I don't even run this game lmao. Don't ever call me a bitch again you sensitive human being. Clearly I don't know the situation, I'll leave it up to you guys. Not even going to bother responding after this. Sorry for responding in the first place, because clearly this is a huge deal.

As much as I don't personally like using any form of aggressive tones to try and force change or anything, I think this case is quite a clear opportunity to show that improvements in some areas of moderation (or at least potentially the requirements for a run to be accepted) are possible, and probably wanted.

I haven't done too many runs in the last few months (focusing more on just general improvement as opposed to runs. although currently I have a run or two with full recording submitted within the last day waiting to be verified), but having regularly checked the site I've noticed a few of these PayToWin runs that I'd have been questioning personally. To me it's always a red flag when someone who has the capability to record fails to do so without offering reasonable justification, but maybe that's just me on a personal mindset of "proving a run should be one of the main priorities if you're serious enough about putting the time in". I fully understand people not having webcams or capture cards (obviously a phone probably wouldn't be capable to do runs unless you had a like tripod for them or something, which do exist for most modern phones) but I don't honestly see many reasons to believe that someone with the ability to record suddenly couldn't when it came to multiple runs in a row. One run maybe you could use the "I forgot to check my recording settings so it didn't actually record when I thought it was" or "My file corrupted" excuse, but surely after one instance of it happening you'd make sure to never make that mistake again and try to prove yourself? People who have nothing to hide go in to situations willing to prove themselves, and either this player didn't get the memo on recording, or just doesn't want to show the world footage.

I'm not going to sit there and flat out say "well he's definitely got an illegal time" because for all we know the player may be legitimate just simply without a way to record for some unknown reason, but clearly if runs are getting through without evidence with the community now concerned, there should be a point where we have to change things to ensure that this environment has as much integrity and validity as is reasonably possible to stop there being as many risks for runs to be faked. This isn't the first time where someone will be highlighted, and I'm sure it won't be the last, but moderators seriously should be looking to be more careful on such areas. It's not specifically hard stuff to catch in reality, and I think that's the concern many seem to have, the fact that the slipups aren't the first obvious ones made.

I think to sum my opinion up, I'd say this: I don't personally mind waiting a few days for my run to be verified, but then I see runs with no evidence verified and getting in to high spots on rankings (not even a matter of "oh yeah this dude's splicing the game sorry we didn't get that" kind of hard to spot stuff. literally no evidence provided when it's clear the person could and/or the person has come out with a good time from nowhere), it's not fun, and it makes people question why they should go through the effort of verifying their own runs. Like... when I know that some of us go through the effort of setting up capture systems just for the sake of verifying our runs, I don't think it's fair that such runs have the risk of being beaten by people who the community seem to not know, where there's been little to no checking, and no evidence has been provided on runs that clearly could be proven if wanted by the runner, or at least a moderator should have stepped in to find out what the case was.

Perhaps if investigations in to such unknown people were made more public (if they have been done and it's all some big misunderstanding) then we'd have less outrage, but as it is, it does look like sloppy errors and suspicious times being allowed through the cracks.

This thread is interesting. I'm not going to ever look like a shady runner, because I use the Wii Wheel and I'm not that good compared to most runners.
