Konami Monetization

I've posted two Contra speedruns so far, neither of them very good yet. But within hours on both, Konami chimed in to monetize my videos for themselves.

I'm not sure exactly what that means, but I assume it happens to all of us? Is there anything I should know going forward?

Really? That doesn't 100% surprise me, but it does still a little bit. Are you monetizing your videos before they are doing this? I don't do this for my videos, especially just gameplay/speedrun videos, mostly because the laws around them as "fair use" seems somewhat vague.

The reason I am asking is that maybe they will only do this on videos you are yourself monetizing. If you just turn that off I wonder if they will give a sweet goddamn about it.

You don't have to have monetization on for Konami to claim a copyright on your videos. Especially if you're uploading full runs since you're playing the entire game. I believe if you do runs without the game sound on and /or have other sound playing like background music they may not be able to claim it then. Don't quote me on that one though lol. All of my Contra stuff on YouTube has been claimed by Konami and I don't really care as I use YouTube for my personal vod storage/cloud. YouTube's guidelines and requirements for monetization now favor those who are already established and won't allow you to monetize unless you meet certain high marks.

I am not doing anything "money" at all. I just post the runs that have merit there. I don't ever really intend to try to make money off of it, but who knows what lies in the future. My YouTube Channel under the same name has all of 4 Subscribers and all of maybe 250 total views so far, so it seems a little absurd from my perspective. But it is their product and I have no issue with it, really. Unless they start ad-bombing my videos or something. That would annoy me.

Same thing happened to me when I uploaded my latest run onto YouTube as well. It was pretty much an immediate copyright claim, which is fine because I'm not a YT partner so I don't make any money off of my vids anyway, lol.

The 9:34 TAS I posted this morning was flagged before it was finished processing. They're on the ball, but they aren't interfering with anything I'm doing. Unless I somehow become internet famous, I don't think it'll be an issue.
