Can we clarify the rules please.

I'm interested in doing runs of this game but I feel that the rules need some clarification especially on the IL side of things because you could for example do mission 2 using 3 lightfoot scrolls or even more silly chameleon disguise (mission 8 Grandmaster item) and 3 lightfoot scrolls to get a ridiculously fast Grandmaster IL.

Another item which could be abused to get Grandmaster ILs is mission 10 Grandmaster item to reset enemy status.

My personal opinion on this is that you should only be allowed to use items attainable in single segment i.e no chamalion disguise until mission 9 and only 1 use allowed because you should only have 1, same goes for LFS on mission 2 because you should only have 1. This means that you could use 3 chameleon items in mission 10 (only applicable to Grandmaster% really)

Another query is about the Japanese version (shinobi gaisen) not the one with 2 missing missions. In the Japanese version the mission layouts do not become random until you have finished layout 1 (which is default) this is a huge disadvantage in mission 3 and mission 10 because you always have the archer shooting at you when you are trying to jump the gap / lava respectively.

Can we allow NG+ in Japanese meaning you would start a game with all missions cleared so that the run would be identical to US / PAL of course you would have to make item count in line with a new game to make it fair.

Sorry for long post, interested in opinions on these matters :)

I completely agree that GM% and Any% should only count as IL records if they were attained during a full-game run as that's the only way to fairly compare and verify them. I'll make a note of it in the IL rules. Low% doesn't matter for obvious reasons.

Personally, I think the Japanese version should be classified as a different game(as it sort of is, with some fairly big differences to the Western version from what you described), so what I could do is create a new page for it. It doesn't seem like it has much of a benefit over the western version. Why not just play that? I will admit that I don't know a whole lot about the Japanese versions of Tenchu, though. I'll do some research on it when I get home from work tonight.

I would love to hear more of your thoughts on this for sure. I don't know nearly enough about the early versions of Tenchu to properly moderate them.
