Knife Only Rules ?

Hello, what would be rules for a proper knife only Rules for you ? Imo, you have to use a gun to: -Shoot the 5 bells in Dimitrescu castle -Shoot one of the plank to make a "bridge" during Moreau part -Shoot the huge propeller in the Factory -Destroy miranda's scripted "Supernova" (then you have to finish her with the knife)

Heisenberg Can be done with the melee chainsaw, do no gun allowed (only the canon between each phase as it's scripted)

Except those parts, you can do everything with the knife.

The Knife Only rules are the same as the Knives Out challenge. Do whatever you can to beat the game as fast as possible, without hitting an enemy with a weapon that isn't the Knife. As soon as you hit an enemy with a weapon that isn't the knife, you'll have to either restart checkpoint, or restart the run. (depending on the time loss)

is the lightsaber going to be different category?

I've seen many run where ppl shoots Heisenberg with the vehicle. Does this count for knives out ? (I've already unlocked the success without shooting Heisenberg with it so i can't Say)

Yeah, you can shoot/launch Heisenberg, and then you have to Knife him when you're out of the vehicle. Also yes, NG+ Knife Only will be available, but it will be on the Category Extensions page, which will release some time after we have the main boards up and ready.

Ok thank you, I did a 2h13 but using chainsaw only against Heisenberg so I can be even faster:

The question is which knife is going to be allowed during the run?

Île-de-France, France

2 different category I guess, On for normal knife, another for NG+ Karambit Knife

What about lz answerer? That's ok right? And which one do you prefer? I've never compared them. Also, with knife only do you guys do glitches? If you do then do you think there should be a glitchless category?

Île-de-France, France

I do not use glitches I prefer using normal knife. IMO, knife only spririt(Sonce RE1) as always been to complete the game with the less powerful weapon available.

Maxy answered which Knife will be allowed here:

Main category going by that will be regular Knife, which is as it should be in my opinion. The other knives I feel wouldn't carry the normal spirit of the Knife Only run. (Using the lightsaber specifically defeats the entire point of even doing Knife Only.)

Regular knife is good for Knives Out challenge at Casual Karambit is by far the way to go in anything above Casual and also feels... natural. really. Also we dont like to suffer in an already long run from carpa tunnel by the regular knife, as the karambit alleviates a bit the pain. Game has evolved from the classic games , health of enemies is insanely big from back then ,and regular knife is almost for cosmetic use . Regular knives are nerfed to the ground after re2remake. Many dedicated knife only runners use the Karambit and they do that for a reason.. We dont want higher difficulties to be neglected and left to dust cause of this. I suggest a vote

Vote is a good idea. Regular knife is a lot of clicking, Moreau and Uriaș Străjer especially, this one is a far cry from previous knife only runs in earlier RE games and doing that over and over again trying to beat PB is gonna result in a hefty case of carpal tunnel for some.

Correct. Patience, runners.

I have no issues using the regular knife on casual, standard, and hardcore. It is difficult but can be done. Hardcore just becomes a 3 hr speedrun. lol

I am not trying to be difficult but I have a question on pc knife only glitchless world record. The player used a pipe bomb and shotgun after he was grabbed by Miranda. I know we can shoot her with the infinite handgun there but i didn't know you can use a pipe bomb to blow her up and the shotgun. My run wasn't allowed after i accidently got the free heal which is dlc. my fault. I just don't know if there is consistency in this category. Also i thought we could only shoot the things we couldn't reach with a knife to continue the story line, not shoot every door lock, wood trigger, etc in Moreau/factory sections, with a gun and shotgun.

The rules basically follow the knives out challenge, which permits you to use guns/explosives as long as you're not doing damage to enemies or breaking crates I believe. You're also allowed to use weapons during the ending of the Miranda fight and obviously during The Heisenberg robot fight. There's no restriction on which gun you're allowed to use for those permitted times

I am looking at the miranda fight. the rules say use the gun when prompted, not pipe bomb. I would have to try it on another account but the pipe bomb is definitely giving damage at the end. I know this is a low % category but this is stretching the rules a bit.

Using the pipe bomb in the castle is necessary to continue the story. that's why knives out allows it. Not sure if it would allow it in the Miranda fight.
