I just tried my first attempt at speed running this after watching a vid from TehMaker. I've never tried to speed run anything before. I guess I figured since I had 1300 hours into this game, I must be able to give this a go right? Yeah not so much.

Anyway, I dropped a 55min Act1 and ran out of time tonight getting livesplit setup, etc. How much of a D3 run is just RNG hell? Seems like if you miss a couple caves... run over. In the end I really have a new respect for how difficult speed running is as a whole.

well, some maps are static and have little to no rng, learning the dungeons tiles will also help you greatly.

Sorry, I use translate.google for translation, I hope you will understand me correctly if the translation will be strange to you.

I advise you to watch more videos. A lot of runners, even TehMaker, overlooked by a lot of little things that make up the run. If you have played 1300 hours - you should know that there are locations that are generated randomly, and other static.

Also you should know what skills to help your character to move faster. Most "speedrunners" do not know at what level at what rune will run faster. It is very sad that a lot of players refer to this casually.

Tehmaker Record for the Wizard I have improved by 25 minutes because he just ran, not choosing the right skills, stopping where you need to run, not choosing the right runes.

I participated in the race in the time of the beta. We spend the whole league speedruns D3, when it was popular.

Thank you for the replies. Although I have a lot of time played, it was mostly in rifts grinding for gear. I will make more attempts and study the tile sets. I know the Witch Doctor skills well, so I will start with him.

we should do some class guides to get people better into the game

That would be helpful. Maybe a checklist of some sort like "Khazra Den can spawn at x, y, z" locations for that and other mandatory story quests. Key class skills and runes that effect speed, IE: "WD: Horrify w/ Stalker rune; Spirit Walk w/ Jaunt run" levels you get them maybe.

I have to say I believe a reason D3 isn't run constantly is because this game is still heavily played and patched regularly. There isn't a way to glitch out certain sections to lower time that I know of. It's literally "run from here to Act V as fast as you can".

The thing I worry about is because the game is still patched on a regular basis, all it would take is a change to the wrong skill and that classes WR is no longer attainable. Anyway, just typing out loud here.

for maps with possible locations, you can check some of them here: http://www.diablowiki.net/Category:Diablo_3_maps

Quick question. Are the console runs doable? Or are they unrealistically long and hard? Haven't seen a run of this game yet but sounds interestingly enough to want to find out more.
