Good, affordable hd tv for running Standard Def games?

As some of you may have seen in my recent post, my Vizio wouldnt pick up the signal to the JAP N64 I just picked up, so I had to switch back to an old tube tv. Problem is, the screen is small as Hell and the back of the tube tv is so huge itll barely fit on my dresser lol. So can anyone suggest a good, cheap hdtv that supports ntsc-j signal and is also good for running sd games (aka no noticeable lag)?

You'll be hard-pressed to find any HDTV that natively supports 240p/480i based games.

Thing is, an HDTV needs to convert the SD signal to a signal it is able to interpret, which requires processing time from the HDTV's video processor. Input lag mostly comes from this. Game mode on HDTVs attempts to reduce that processing time, which generally results into an image of lesser quality. But even then, it will never be able to replicate the near-zero lag CRTs provide.

Shop around for a decent CRT. Some times you can find them really cheap, or even free.

It's a long drawn out bullshit story that I already told in the Discord and don't wanna repeat here, but to summarize my family (whose room I'm staying in) doesn't want a big ass crt on the "new furniture" (tables, dressers)... evidently I need to mount an hd on the wall like a normal human or get fucked basically haha. They don't get the need for a crt bc "they're old pos's, hd is better anyways".

It's to the point I'm just gonna say fine a-holes, I'll buy my own table to put a BVM on lol. What sucks is the Vizio I was using actually ran my PS2 (playing PS1 games), but it wouldnt run the Japanese N64 for some reason.

again goodwill, you can get flat lcd screens there as well does not have to be a HDTV just has to have an input that you need to stick a lead into for your machines. No need to go grab an expensive HDTV if all you want it for is to play older games.

Move into your own place. Also, yes, get your own table or something and plop a crt down on it.

Not like I really need to explain this, but not everyone is at a stage in their life where they can afford to live on their own Komrade lol. And I'm currently using a crt, it's just small. An old Orion. Works surprisingly well though.

You have a CRT then what's the issue haha

Komrade did you not even read the initial post?! Lol

idk make room, put the tv on the floor, sit closer to the screen

@ConkyJoe89 - no current LCD is going to compare to a CRT in terms of display delay and they all will have some sort of resolution scaling issues.

Now this can be mitigated in three ways, firstly by getting a CRT as suggested from goodwill / craigslist / ebay / local dealers. While we're not sure of your current scenario it seems likely you're not in a position to get one of the size you'd like into the household. You mentioned a BVM, obviously if you can afford an old broadcasting CRT, even better.

Second option is a low latency monitor (NOT a TV) like a BenQ esports monitor - http://www.benq.com.au/product/gaminggears/rl2755 - as an example. This is likely the most reasonable for your current scenario by the sounds of it, while not as cheap as the CRT, it does provide the "new" aspect of it, and it will do you for a good while and can be used for other stuff later on.

Finally, you can get an OLED screen panel. These will hurt the wallet, but they will provide the amazing picture with the beauty of the low latency and everything that you want from a CRT and more. Sadly, in the consumer OLED TV market, you will stuggle to find a TV that is smaller than about 46" and it won't be cheap. Smaller OLEDs exist, but you will be looking at some serious money to by them, since they are all professional broadcast grade.
