Talking with 1 Credit Runs on YouTube, we have played several characters, and I have a general tier list so far. This is DEFINITELY subject to argument and change.

S+ God Tier: Mysterious Warrior

S Tier: Jake Abobo Ranzou Casey Shannon Kodani

A Tier: Chin T. Ayumi Chin S. Right Arm Linda Cody Ashida

B Tier Williams Roper Yamazaki

Bottom (Trash) Tier Billy Jimmy Shadow Boss Jimmy Mason Burnov Soeno

Maybe I'll try and beat the game with each character, that way people can see where they stand and how to improve them.

I like the Tower category, does it matter if it's 1player, 2player, 1player 2controllers?

Just beat it with Ranzou. Game still being a cheap little bitch, especially with crowds, so no one-credit runs yet. But he looks very, very promising. I really like his playstyle, and gets out of trouble better than Abobo does.

S Rank for sure.

Some updates:

Linda to A Rank. She has like all the tools but power and has a penchant of getting out of trouble easily. Great foot speed helps tremendously, and like S+ priority on attacks.

Shadow Boss Jimmy a great character, but not for speedruns. His power is low, his walk speed is slow, but he has a ton of variety. If you're doing a points run you might enjoy him though. :)

Williams to B Rank. When he has knives and a run he's awesome. When he doesn't though, he sucks.

Chin S. and Ranzou stay where they are. They play about as expected. Chin has been nerfed since Double Dragon 3, Ranzou buffed, but stylewise they play similar to that game.

Casey and Shannon to S Tier: A 23:20 was unofficially done by them during a practice stream.

I ran Ranzou today for the first time and got a 25:31, not 1 credit, almost beating my Jake time. Had a lot of problems figuring out his platforming but I believe once I get him down he'll be very good. If running, he has the longest jump in the game. You have to be precise, but I think he can get through the platforming the fastest. If played properly, I think Ranzou and Casey/Shannon have a real chance at times near the Mysterious Warriors. They're just a lot harder to play with.

More updates:

Burnov is trash tier. His power is awful for a power character (even Roper is as powerful!!!), and is pretty much obsoleted by everyone but Billy and Jimmy.

Mason is trash tier. He has a nice priority move, but his whole attack scheme is weak. He can't kill enemies quickly and his run is slow as molasses.

Cody is A Tier. He is a pure projectile character and can do nice stuff with knives, but lacks crowd control, weak melee, and slow walking speed. HADOKEN! lol.

Ashida is A Tier. Has tremendous difficulty with walking speed and platforming, but boy he can kick ass. Turned in a time of 26:25.

Anthopants, also need to get you on Discord or something to discuss more so Twitch/YouTube isn't the only option.

In reply, I think you can do better than that 25:31 with Ranzou. He has a lot of speed. After landing use his kick wakeup to jump the platforms in 8 and 11. I'd also like to know his command to run so help me out. I don't know if you can get Mysterious Warrior/Raymond times, but I think 23-something is very possible with him, especially if you don't game over.

Confirming Jack as high tier

Yamazaki is B Tier. Nice power, nice wakeup, but not overwhelming, and no real means to move around. Platforming is OK.

Last few characters:

Soeno: Total trash tier for speedrunning, arguably the worst character to do it with; however, on that note, he's so weak he's the absolute best to do tournament-style points run with. He does so little damage he piles up points like crazy: I was close to 200,000 without leeching.

Ayumi: Besides her walking speed, Ranzou just does everything she does better. A tier and staying there.

Kodani: S Rank, might give some of the top tiers a run for their money too. You're saying, how does a sumo do it? Not one credit, but it's certainly possible to do so and I'm going to provide a video for the (hilarious) proof:
