idk why people are taking it like this haha, check any game i moderate, the games say any%, mostly. i just think putting % at the end of a word is dumb, but i get why people do it i guess

I only have a problem with % at the end of a word if it doesn't make sense. Any% and 100% make sense (since it's "complete the game with any percent completion" and "complete the game with 100 percent completion" respectively). Low% sounds weird to me but it's acceptable (since it's something along the lines of "complete the game with the lowest possible percent completion"). But things like Tutorial% or Glitch% don't make sense since the word has nothing to do with the actual completion percentage, so they should probably omit the %.

^, hugely. If the category is implying some sort of percentage, as Any%, Low%, or even an actual digit percentage (0%, 100%, etc.), then having a % is fine. If the word isn't implying some sort of percentage or the number isn't some sort of percentage, then you shouldn't have a % after it. Examples being 96 Star (has a number, but not a percentage), All Levels (not even close), etc.

It doesn't really matter, though. Anyone can look at "Any%" or "Beat the game" or even "any%" and think "that's the category where they beat the game as fast as possible". There's no ambiguity, it's just a matter of personal choice.

The ambiguity is not in what "beat the game" means, it's that that wording implies other categories do not do it. And that is false, which is why "Beat the game" is terrible as an alternative to Any%

Any% is only a decent legacy category name. New boards shouldn't use it unless the game gives a percentage.

Even if a game doesn't have a % given, Any% has clear meaning in speedrunning. This debate on semantics seems strange to me. I recently changed the name of a category to Any% because people thought the name wasn't clear. 'Complete the game as fast as possible by any means necessary' seems like a long title!

Just because a game didn't give the player an end %, doesn't mean that they actually did or didn't do everything the game wanted/required them to do.

Any% doesn't really have a clear meaning. It's has a "It's just the way we've always done things" meaning deriving purely from one of SDA's dumber quirks.

Don't mess with a working system, they say.

I don't see why there's a big fuss about this. If you want to call your categories something other than Any% then that's up to you, but there's really no problem with it. The real place where a category is going to be clearly defined for that specific game is going to be in the rules anyway, the category name is just a shorthand for that ruleset. As long as your category name actually matches the rules (i.e. your 100% category isn't called "beat half the game"), it doesn't really matter what the name is.

I agree with FurryWulfz and Habreno. But it seems like the topic of this thread was changed. It used to be about content moderators. So here's a question regarding the original topic: do content moderators get to deal with leaderboard requests? I assume so, right? That should make the waiting time a lot less long. :)

@607 ive noticed recently that the Full Mods have been doing game requests as well

can you give an example of maintaining games?

Content mods are helping with game requests as well. I'll try to get together a list of exact roles when I have more time. Working with site staff to discuss changes and prioritize issues is another thing on the list. We also want to get a few more people involved eventually, but we're rolling this out slowly.

I personally like "any%", but "Beat the game" is fine. I dislike "ArbitraryWord%", but generally I don't make a big deal out of it. I think it looks dumb.

I didn't make a big deal out of it at all, people just ran with it
