New Add-on rules

Looking for Different view from other people on a topic: the add-on rule is pretty limited as of now. Only disables AI changes and nothing much more. I think I have the support of the original l4d1 runners, that we should disable add-ons completely. They add time to loads and can give an unfair advantage (i.e. teletubbies mod, makes common super bright and seeable. Anime anything, makes whatever is changed super bright and very visible (I know i wouldn't have shot some witches if they had an anime model on it))

But that's just my view on it, I'm here to get the views of other people. I know some people in my group disagree with me on the topic because some addons just change the color of someones shirt which is understandable I hate nicks ugly suit too.

so please give me your views, because the add-on rule HAS to change.

weapon and survivor add-ons are fine, music swaps are fine. i want to keep my daft punk dark carnival add-on. not a fan of special infected models and textures but i am fine with sounds since you should be familiar with the sounds anyway. i want to keep my van darkholme add-on for the smoker
since you should be familiar with the sounds anyway
Exactly, so if you're not you should be penalized for it by getting bad runs with mistakes in it, rather than chickening out and replacing the sounds to more recognizable ones.

What Yashichi writes in his post is a SHITTON of exceptions, and imo this is not the way to go. Ban addons completely, just for the sake of consistency. One or two exceptions are fine (portal style viewmodel texture), but not a thousand of them.

I have an emotional attachment to my add-ons. Please don't make me do this

edit: didn't realize what you meant by portal style viewmodel textures. I support that idea with the stipulation that I think custom Dark Carnival concert music is fine

How would this rule will be enforced, considering most co-op runners don't stream; they have one team member who does.

we're just going to have to require everyone to stream then

enjoy your 100kbps streams then

Update I fucked it hard on the forums and deleted the OP of the other Add-ons thread, Basically what it said was AI add-ons are banned and aren't allowed. Everything else is fine but we should set up rules to restrict some add-ons that give unfair advantages like making characters fullbright anime shit.

I mean only if I could just rollback changes :PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPpppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp

Weapon textures: OK Weapon models: ? Weapon sounds: OK (?) Survior textures: ? Survivor models: ? Survivor sounds: OK (?) Infected/Uncommon Infected textures: NO Infected/Uncommon Infected models: NO Special Infected textures: NO Special Infected models: HECK NO Special Infected sounds: NO Special Infected music (Witch, Tank): NO (?) Sound effects (Pipe bomb explosion, horde alert, etc): NO (?) Dark Carnival concert finale: OK (?)¤

let's clarify

Banning the use of any add-ons is the only way to 100% fix the issue. That being said, now that I've gotten used to my AK-47 Vulcan and M4A4 Howl, it's hard to detach myself from them, so I can see why people are fighting for them. The ideal win-win solution would be to keep the game as vanilla as possible by only allowing a couple add-ons. There's only so much prettying-up that can be done until it's deemed over-the-top, but it looks like we haven't found that median yet. As for Yashi's list, I'd say:

Weapon textures: OK Weapon models: OK Weapon sounds: OK Survivor textures: NO Survivor models: NO Survivor sounds: NO Infected/Uncommon Infected textures: NO Infected/Uncommon Infected models: NO Special Infected textures: NO Special Infected models: NO Special Infected sounds: NO Special Infected music (Witch, Tank): NO Sound effects (Pipe bomb explosion, horde alert, etc): NO Dark Carnival concert finale: OK

I'd say no to the character mods because a run of L4D2 should still look like you're playing L4D2. If I were watching a run, I'd prefer to see the main cast run through the levels rather than the Teletubbies or something. Although the same argument could be made for the weapon mods, because you're looking at weapons 100% of the time while playing, but if we don't allow those, what can we allow? Maybe allow some character mods and weapon mods, but not allow using both at the same time?

Now, if we do allow add-ons in the future, how are we going to regulate them? Should we have a sticky where people post the add-ons they use, and if they're accepted they get added to a big list of accepted add-ons? Should there be a small list of accepted add-ons to choose from that the moderators all decide on? Should an add-on amount restriction be put in place to prevent people from having a massive amount of add-ons?

I can't tell which side I'm on. I love me some mods, but I love me some legitimate speedruns, too. The more I think about it, the more I'd like add-ons to be banned completely, but something in the back of my head is still fighting for them. I guess I'm just stupid.

[small]Or we could all just run on console from now on :^)[/small]

Weapon textures: OK Weapon models: OK Weapon sounds: OK Survivor textures: NO Survivor models: NO Survivor sounds: NO Infected/Uncommon Infected textures: NO Infected/Uncommon Infected models: NO Special Infected textures: NO Special Infected models: NO Special Infected sounds: NO Special Infected music (Witch, Tank): NO Sound effects (Pipe bomb explosion, horde alert, etc): NO Dark Carnival concert finale: OK

Is a pretty good list. As a general rule I would say No remodels of anything outside of weapons or textures like yashi's daft punk shit.

I just found this place, holy shit, finally a bastion of information for L4D2 runs.

Despite having a bunny-hop script category, can I b-hop in a regular run manually and submit it as a regular run? Or does bunny-hopping at all make my run categorized as a scripted 'bunny-mod' run?

Yes, you can use bhopping in a normal run.

hey guys, i have a question, the neon skins does counts? :s So, the runs starts when you can move the player, when the map starts (with the intro) and when the maps are loading i can stop the time counter until it loads and i can play? So, i have music to the tank (Phoenix wright cornered theme) and a Tf2 meet the medic theme for the finale of every campaign in the game, i have to disable they?

I don't know what neon skins you're talking about, would you mind posting a link to them? As long as the special infected/common infected/survivors don't stand out because of the add-on, it shouldn't be a problem.

As for timing, you can start the time counter after the game loads. As soon as you can move, you can start the timer.

Music/sound add-ons are allowed right now, but I don't think it will stay that way for very long. If you don't know if it would be allowed or not, you should turn it off just in case. (Not to mention more addons = longer load times, so it would be better to run with no add-ons.)

Virginia, USA

The first add-on should be okay, but the project glow add-on is a little cheap and gives you an advantage over people who aren't using it, so that one should probably be disabled. And yes, timer starts when you move around, after the intro.

(I don't know how experienced you are, so here's a tip. If you want to know all of the possible places where items can spawn in a map, use the command "director_debug_scavenge_items 1" in the console to show all of the possible spawn points. You can't do this during a run, so memorize as many spawn points as you can so you can check them in a run later on.)

thanks you :), so, there's a WORKING way to delete zombies after killing? the cl_ragdoll_limit dont works

Virginia, USA

You can type "-lv" (without the quotes) into the launch options in Steam. This will give you the effect that the censored versions of the game have, reduced gore and disappearing corpses. (Right click the game in your library, go to properties, set launch options.)

rly? thanks you, so, im new in this page, i got a 1:37:21 on l4d2, how i can submit it?

Minor rule changes/clarifications

Hey everyone, some minor changes to the rules - solely to clarify things/change wording, no rules actually "changed" (at least not in any way that will be relevant to 99.9% of people):
