Demo Speedruns

Hey, I was considering speedrunning the demo of this game(Any% and all catchable pokemon), and I was wondering is anyone knew what all the obtainable pokemon were in the demo version of the game, and also if there's any catalog of times people got if they have run the demo even if it's not on this site.

I have not played the real game, but I'm assuming that looking up the pokemon that spawn in Viridian Forest in the main game won't help, because something tells me Psyduck and Meowth don't spawn there in the actual game. I've tried looking it up before posting, but Serebii and Bulbapedia didn't have anything useful in that regard unless I overlooked it, and multiple pages of google had nothing either.

Thanks for your help!

As far as I know, no one has done any speedruns of the demo. It wouldn't ever be a main category most likely, but if we get a Category Extensions page someday, you might be able to make a case for it going there

Alright, so I ran the demo in two categories. Any % and "Bad Trainer %" Did some more looking, and couldn't find anyone that has run the demos, so I'm assuming for right now I'm the only one that has done so. If it turns out I'm wrong, let me know.

One thing to note about the demo is that upon launching it randomly gives you the Pikachu or Eevee version of the demo. Pikachu is faster because there is a mandatory fight with a lass that has a Pidgey, and Pikachu can one-shot it with thundershock unless the rng gods hates you and gives Pikachu low special attack.

For timing the runs, I started the timer as soon as I hit the A button, and ended as soon as the screen faded to black after Oak's final dialog box. My capture card is old(Roxio Game Capture HD Pro), so there's about a two second delay from when the timer in the video starts because I don't know if there's any possible way to delay it via Streamlabs OBS to match the output from my card.

Any % is straightforward, just get to the end. WR is 1:55.92 here's the video of it. After looking back at the run I can't imagine what could be done to optimize it past that outside of minor movement.

Bad Trainer % was thought up by a friend after I found out there were 110 balls (plus three from the mandatory Lass battle) given to you in the demo. The idea is to fail to capture any Pokemon in the demo with the balls given to you and then get to the end. It's stupid, but I love it. I could not for the life of me find a 100% consistent way to constantly fail at using the balls because sometimes it would "randomly" just go and catch the pokemon anyway, but I think that's just inconsistencies at not throwing the balls the same 113 times. Sub 5 minute is possible with good locations for the wild pokemon plus being able to fail at using all of the balls faster while also being lucky enough they don't run away from you, but it took me around a half hour to drop it from 5:05, so I stopped with a WR of 5:02.28

Hey @Napuc

We have recently added category extensions to our leaderboards. Feel free to post the request here: https://www.speedrun.com/pkmngen7ext/thread/osdlw

Turbo Controller Rule Changes

Turbo is now allowed for all categories in the Let's Go and Sword/Shield category extensions leaderboards!

Turbo is a function that allows some 3rd party controllers to input repeated button presses by only holding the button down, i.e. holding down the A button would simulate repeatedly pressing
