Hello, My name is Ash and I’m a freelancer for Minecraft.net. I’m not a speedrunner myself but I love (LOVE it’s like Christmas for me) watching speedruns and events like ESA and the GDQs. Since AGDQ is going on right now, and I have a good rapport with my editors, in casual conversation I suggested they watch FearfulFerret’s All Achievements run a few GDQs back.

They were so fascinated by the idea of speedrunning Minecraft (they’d never heard of it before) that they came back and asked if I would be interested in doing a piece on Minecraft speedrunning for the site.

So here I am! I’m poking bushes and shaking trees seeing if I can find Minecraft speedrunners that’d be interested in having a chat. Talk about what you do, why you speedrun, what makes speedrunning Minecraft appealing/fun/different than speedrunning other games. (I’m partial to platformers myself.) I like this, but please, please just contact some of the higher end speedrunners to better show our community. I would not see myself as a good enough example so please do take care in who you take random advice from.

I do not want to offend anyone, I've ran Minecraft games at marathons, but I believe that Theesizzler, illumina, funderful could provide good/better insights, as well as the japanese random seed glitchless community.

Thank you for the suggestion and I will def reach out to the folks you mention. I think the interesting thing about what my editors want and what I want is that we don't exactly need the best of the best to make the piece shine. What we're really interested in is examining how y'all play this game from a speedrunning perspective. Yes, impressive world record times are always fun to chat about but just getting a feel for the community spirit and the collective effort of all the minecraft speedrunners of all skill levels would be of more value both to me and the readers on the site.
