Hello everybody it’s Extreme_Speed and this is 8 reasons why Sonic Riders needs igt.

1: If you are playing on console it is pretty much impossible to get wr because the load times are too slow on console.

2: After a race, you have to skip through the save data screen which can also affect you if you're going for wr.

3: Also going along with number 2. Snfn who is a riders speedrunner did a run of hero story no ultra on pc and had to skip through the save screen which affected his run which it would have been wr.

4: Snfn also did the same run another time before and got wr but he had to remove it from the leaderboard because he was using Tweakbox which has faster load times. So that means that the load times have to be fast if you're going for wr but if your using Tweakbox the load times are too fast.

5: Also trying to download the game can be a pain because if you're downloading it offline some downloads don’t even include the proper cutscene files. Also, they may just not even work at all. I've tried to download one offline and for me it didn’t work.

6: Even if you are using an emulator such as Dolphin the load times would still be slow by like 10 seconds.

7: So a disc would be the best but acquiring a copy of the game for pc can also be difficult because it can be very expensive for a sealed copy and the only place you can get it is a used copy on EBay.

8: Also Iden, the wr holder for controller no ultra, said that he has a copy of the game on disc but he hasn’t had much success downloading them.

Conclusion: So being able to have igt would be better and make more sense for people speedrunning it on console or are struggling with the weird load time of riders on pc. Riders Zero Gravity already has igt on the leaderboards for full game speedruns. It would be the same as zero gravity where you add the times that you got in all of the stages.

The only issue I see with this is abuse of pausing. I know that intentional pausing is banned in No Ultra, so No Ultra IGT would be intuitive. But, with ultra skips allowed, on Splash Canyon specifically, you can really slow down the pausing and get the same time as somebody trying to really optimize the skip. It would have to be some sort of IGT that includes pauses unless we ban pausing in all categories.

i guess i'll include something here. i've never noticed if zero gravity did the same thing as sonic riders with the pausing for the in-game time for that not that i've ran that more than first game. Maybe they should have real time more important over their over in-game time? it was never stated that your not aloud to pause over their for story runs. for sonic riders though probably the same thing, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to include in-game time for story submissions i guess. it would take a bit longer in the submission process, because you have to add up the in-game times of the levels you ran through just like with zero gravity if you want to include in-game time. Could be something you don't have to submit i guess like with real time on other games i've ran so far. dwaits idea makes since as well with the no pause rule since level speedruns do exactly that for riders 1 save the pause buffer glitch for glitched category which only require in-game time. real time possibly again due something i just did a few days ago... i also have a faster run, and am sure it can be done almost as fast as using the pause buffer glitch in terms of in-game time. its typically used for a dash which i show in this case is not needed. probably would be better to do with said dash though...

Does anyone know how to frame advance a Twitch clip? Frame advancing a YT video is just "," for the frame before and "." for the frame after. We could take the last frame the timer shows up on Sand Ruins if you can frame advance a Twitch clip.

I know that approximation on Sand Ruins may not be too much of an issue since we're not using milliseconds unless it's a tie for WR. In that case, can we just ask the runner to export Twitch clip to YT?

I think we all dream of Riders being measured by IGT. I even created a topic in 2017 with reasons about it. In those times, there were less than 25 players (now 123) and I think it was feasible to implement that year. However, historically this has not been done for these main reasons (and have increased dramatically over time):

  1. There are no certainty methods to measure the IGT in Sand Ruins for Heroes Story and All Stories.

  2. Any compensation methods for Sand Ruins and Pauses, with inaccurate IGTs (viewing frame by frame in editing programs), are still inaccurate and will vary unfairly between recording methods.

  3. Implementing the IGT would mean a job of more than 90 hours, with a total of 273 current runs to re-verify. Even if only the last runs of each player in each category + the history of WRs are re-verified, the number is over 200 (if I'm not wrong).

  4. There are historical runs without active videos that it is not possible to measure IGT.

  5. For runs with pauses, since there is no AutoSplitter, the work of moderators would be many times greater and the current number of moderators is limited to 3 (and Cyber is practically the only one in SSs).

  6. A level of competitiveness has not yet been reached where it is completely necessary to implement IGT or an inaccurate variation of it for tiebreaking WRs or top 3 runs.

  7. The Keyboard version has the best IGTs and very soon it will be impossible for the Controller version (PC or consoles) to reach these times. Therefore, the separation between Keyboard and Controller will still make sense for RTA.

Believe me, I'd like to see IGT (or the RTA w/loads alternative discussed before), but it's an unfeasible job for moderation (for both: past and future runs). That is why compensation methods have been sought such as the separation of Keyboard and Controllers categories, which allow us to clearly know which is the best PC, Wii or PS2 run (for example), fulfilling the objective of showing the best run in each plataform.

We have done our best to adapt the speedrun progress of this game, with new category divisions (No Ultra, Any% and No LRG) and Controller filters. Category Extensions were even thought of (thinking controller mods, SSs for Grand Prix and ILs for LRG) but never materialized due to lack of interest. Unfortunately, about the possibility for IGT, the situation is not comparable with ZG :(
