Inactive moderators and the legitimacy of their position

Moderators don’t have to run their speedgame. Kevin would have to remove himself, but they could remove Cviv if they wanted. Personally, I feel like that the mod team would adress the issue regarding if they need more of less moderators.

They should follow it and update it, but I've seen a lot of communities where people don't run the games they moderate.

I come from a community where half of the mods are inactive and haven't run the game longer than Celeste has BEEN a game. I totally agree and think that the mod team should reflect the active speedrun community rather than one that could potentially hold on to archaic methods of handling decisions in the future.

I'm not against being removed. I did a lot of verifications when there were a lot of runs, but it seemed like every time I would log on there would be no runs to verify.

Yeah, I'm only on the mod team because of the src styling. Also, I do check the discord regularly (even if I don't post) and I still delete messages and intervene sometimes when I feel I should.

Recently I've been on summer break and I've been heavily focusing on my business and doing marketing for that. Not trying to make an excuse for my absence, rather just explaining it. If the community wants to remove me, I 100% support that. I even had an exchange with Bald at the beginning of the summer in which I told him that I felt as though I wasn't very useful to the community. I gave him the option to remove me, but he told me that there was no point. I'm more of a discord mod I guess, I am less comfortable taking a say in leaderboard decisions because, as was stated in this post, I don't run the game seriously anymore. This isn't because I'm disinterested in running the game, it's because I simply don't have the time to invest in becoming as skilled as some of the other runners in this game.

Also, I can't be a very effective moderator if nobody ever pings/pm's mods when there are issues. Luckily, people do regularly pm me about Celeste moderation, so I've found that I'm not too ridiculously inactive. In general discord I may be, but in the moderation channels and audit log I don't believe I am.

"Also, I can't be a very effective moderator if nobody ever pings/pm's mods when there are issues. "

This is so true for people in general for so many things, never bringing up stuff until it boils over. It's a personal button of mine too, since you can't fix something if you didn't know it was broken, hmm?

Verifying and moderating slower time runs is also still a thing, so even if a person is not top level themselves they can still see and go through a lot of the more mid-level or lower-level type stuff to contribute if there is an overload.

As mentioned before, a lot of other boards have mods that are inactive for wayyyy longer with far less of an excuse, so I guess it depends on how passionate people really feel over this stuff. Whether it's seen as a 'power/ego' role or not, I'd personally be in favour of more mods vs less, since it means faster verifications no matter who picks them up.

I might get a lot of hate for this but arent there more important things to rage about than one moderator whos been busy on src? Every run submitted gets approved in a timeframe of 3hours to 5days which is completely fine. The recent discussions about newly found glitches were worked on and the categories altered to the current state of the speedrun. Its nice that the community grows larger and theres more passion about everything than usual but we should rly take a step back if its about insulting people of inactivity or any other way. Sure it might be true he might be slacking but we live in a time where one post can draw a LOT of hate and discussion with it. Just try to consider that in your decision making when posting on the internet. Thanks.

It was brought to my attention that there was no moderator input in this thread (not counting Vivian as the discussion is about her), so Im here to shed some light.

Couple of us agree Kevin doesn't need to be a mod anymore, however he's a super mod and when that gets removed is completely upto him unless we get a hold of the people that run SRC. We are not counting Kevin when we talk about "not currently needing more mods" Teej or secks will shoot him a DM when they get a chance probably and ask him to step down, if it becomes a long standing issue we can reach out to figure out how to rectify it.

Vivian is a completely different story, not all contributions are public, and not all the work that needs to be done needs to be "HEY LOOK IM DOING STUFF." they have contributed in the past both on the leaderboard and in the discord and their position is being discussed among the moderation team to figure out what SHE wants to do. If she was incompetent, or sabotaging something, or negatively impacting the community in a way other than existing, we would have acted on this proposal much quicker. As of now I personally am trying to figure out what she wants and what works for her so we can fit her into a position that fits her schedule while not just dismissing someone who has worked for this community as a relic of the past.

I assume "not all contributions are public" means "does work on the discord". I mean, I'm assuming, I can't stand that place long enough to actually find out.

which begs the question of why sr.c mod and discord mod are the same thing because they almost certainly shouldn't be.

If she works on the discord, let her stay there and do..whatever, but if by her own admission she doesn't really run the game seriously and is only really here because she did the art, why on earth are we not subbing in someone better suited for the board? You're not exactly wanting for decent candidates around here.

I speak from experience, you probably shouldn't roll the two positions into one, especially since the discord is barely a runner discord, you can delegate more effectively that way.

Back from PAX, and just remembered to unmod myself.

Sorry if I caused any headaches by being inactive! There are definitely people out there who are way more suited to the role than I am. :)

Cheers all!
