Console Differences?

Hey all! I've been playing Shadow of the Colossus casually since around the time it came out, love the game, definitely considering speedrunning it. My question is, what's the difference (if there is one) between the PS2 and PS3 versions? I have both available to me, just wondering what (if anything) is better about one or the other.

The most notable difference for speedrunning is load times. The ps3 version is faster there.

Other differences: The NTSC ps2 version removes control of Wander during the cutscene where Barba crashes through the first wall, causing you to fall off of Barba if you're not careful.

As far as I know, Hydrus skip and Torch Drop (Celosia) aren't doable on the NTSC ps2 version.

ps2 version has a significantly easier time one-cycling Pelagia.

Wander's balance is a lot worse across the board on ps3. Plants are more difficult as a result.

The ps3 version has a lot of invisible walls scattered about that make getting out of bounds less doable, but that doesn't really matter for speedruns.

On the ps2 version, Cenobia is much more aggressive at the opening of the fight, which can cause problems with trying to get away from him in order to perform Pillar Skip or Kaze jump.

Thanks, that was very informative!

Which would you recommend for someone just getting into speedrunning this game? I've primarily played the PS2 version if that changes your answer.

I'd recommend PS3. Unless you wanna go for broke and run the ps4 version. Though we don't know anything about that one yet.

with the news of toggleable 30 or 60 fps we may very well have new catagories or split by system. Ps2/ps3/ps4 (30fps) then ps4 (60 fps)

I kind of hope it's a different category personally, but that's for another topic haha. I would definitely recommend the ps3 version as most people run that one.

Not quite "NEWS", but people asked for better visibility for them and since we currently have no way of actually adding a TAB, here is another way to find them.
