Why are most of the runs on Hard mode?

I'm just curious as to why this is, having not played the game myself, I don't know the difference between difficulties, but usually in speedruns, you play on the easiest difficulty for any%.

RĂ©union

Normal mode : When you get hit your ring counter wont get to 0 instead it will decrease by 20-30 and you can get only 100 rings max (or something like that) , but your stages scores won't get recorded in the ingame ladder Hard mode : you lose all your rings when you get hit , but your stages scores are recorded in the in game ladder

may it be for the old school vibe of losing everything once you get it , or to get scores recorded on stages , it's probably just more fun to do them in Hard mode

Yeah speed-wise there's no difference, but on Normal the score screen also won't show your time since it doesn't get recorded. I like to be able to see what in-game time I got on a stage, thus hard mode

Also I don't wanna lie to the game and claim I've never played a Sonic game before :^)

Oh that's the only difference? Welp, guess I'll just go for hard mode when I decide to run this after buying it then, more like "classic mode" in all honesty. Thanks for the replies :)
