Us as a community need to think and agree on rules for categories. We already got most of the categories down. The categories will be shown below if you want to know.

  1. Furrowfield
  2. Krumbul-Dun
  3. Moonbrooke
  4. Malhalla
  5. All Mini Medals
  6. All Puzzles
  7. All Room Recipes
  8. All Monsters Tamed (a maybe)
  9. All Island Scavenger Hunts
  10. All Tablets (discluding ones that are required for the completion of the game)
  11. All Trophies (this is mostly for people that have an Xbox.)
  12. 100% (should have breaks in between each island ) Ok well, its time to think! We should post our ideas down in the section below this message.
United States
  1. Time starts when first move off of the boat to Furrowfield. Time ends when you get the island residents, and go back to the Isle of Awakening with them.
  2. Time starts when you first move off of the boat to Krumbul-Dun. Time ends when you get the island residents and go back to the Isle of Awakening with them.
  3. Time starts when you first move off of the boat to Moonbrooke. Time ends when you get the island residents and go back to the Isle of Awakening with them.
  4. Time starts when you start moving in Malhalla. Time ends when you forge the Sphere of Light after beating the final boss.
  5. It is required that you have all the islands unlocked, all the puzzles not done, and all the tablets not done. (receipt non required ones.) Time starts whenever you move off the boat depending on if you're doing the mini medals on The Isle of Awakening first, or the ones on Furrowfield, Krumbul-Dun, or Moonbrooke first. The time ends when you get last medal/turn them into Hairy Hermit.
  6. It is required that you have all the main story islands unlocked, and all the puzzles not done. Time starts when you go on Furrowfield, Krumbul-Dun, or Moonbrooke and move for the first time. Time ends when you finish you're last puzzle.
  7. Time starts when you move on the Isle of Awakening off the boat. Time ends when finish every room recipe in the Builderpedia, the secrets one AREN'T required. The rules go as follows:
  8. You should have all the blocks for this in your inventory already.
  9. You don't have to build different rooms over and over again.
  10. It is required that you have every island unlocked. Time starts when you move on any of the Scavenger Hunt islands. Time ends when you feed the last monster.
  11. It is required that you have every island unlocked and that you haven't started any of the scavenger hunts at all. Time starts when you go on any of the Scavenger Hunt islands. Time ends when the last Scavenger hunt ends.
  12. It is required that you haven't finished any of the tablets at all. Time starts when you teleport to either the Green Gardens, Scarlet Sands, or The Cerulean Steppe. The Timer ends when Hairy Hermit says that you completed all the tablets.
  13. It is required that you start from the beginning of the game. The timer starts when you finished your settings and started the game. The timer ends when you get the last achievement.
  14. It is required that you start from the beginning of the game. The timer starts when you finished your settings and started the game. The timer ends when you have completed literally everything in the game. Thoughts? This took awhile to make lol

I'd really like for FF/KD/MB timing to stop before the game overwrites the save file, as if the game is allowed to overwrite your save file it will take a while to set your file back up. Time should stop the instant you close the last textbox, and runners should be allowed to close the game immediately to avoid saving.

Completly agreeded.

Sorry for the delays, my home burnt down a couple weeks ago and I'm not able to use the internet much right now. I hope to be in my new place and ready to do this next weekend.

Q: What are the allowed starting values before starting any 1-4 (Furrowfield through Malhalla) runs?

  • Equipment
  • Malroth's weapon
  • Level range
  • Mini-medals collected

Details: To me, starting bare-handed, with the weakest Malroth club, without armor, and at the minimum level sounds the most fair, but being at the minimum level sounds difficult to set up since you cannot lose experience points. Also I think some mini-medals are required to be collected to progress in the main story, so which ones are collected could affect runtime slightly depending on if there are restrictions on which ones are allowed to already be collected. For example, you could sail away to collect mini-medals, unlock something, then come back to the level you are challenging. Not being allowed to redeem mini-medals could help avoid some use cases of extra setup for runs 1-4.

If only he was here... He's been absent for months now.

I'm here. I created IL leaderboard weeks ago, just never filled in rules yet

But seriously, I didn't add any rules cause there was no discussion of them. I noticed 1 person made a list and nothing else. If we can agree to say Sakura's rule set then I'll add them.

Does anyone want any other changes to them? Taking into account Vorce's questions too

I do not...

Sounds good to me, I have 2 more points to add:

  • Infinite resources are another starting value question to answer. A skeptical non-speedrunner mentioned this to me on the DQB2 Discord, which I thought was a good point. "... dqb2 has only ever been timed start to credits, never in segments. too much variation in starting position (level, quipment, infinite resources, etc.) to do a segment run and be comparable to other people. the game requires no mini mdeals ever be collected for an any% run ..." (@lilisaur).
  • I would really like start/end rules added for Chapters 1-4 of the DQB1 speedrun categories please. I replied to a thread asking about them. I feel much more likely to run one of those first because I don't have to prepare a new save file. I have guesses of when to start and end the timer, but as a new runner I don't want to get it wrong and have to redo hours of work.

I'll let this thread go through the weekend then start writing up the rules for this.

@Highspirits have you had the chance to write up rules please? Looks like we got all the feedback we will get.

Time starts when you first move off the boat to Furrofield (change for each island) and ends when screen fades to black when you leave the island with the new residents.

  • Malroth needs to have the lowest level weapon entering the zone.
  • Must have no redeemed mini-medals
  • (insert level requirement here) - No clue how we should tackle this for each IL.

These are the general IL rules for the islands. Someone brought up last text box instead of leaving the island, if thats the case I need to know the text boxes (been awhile since I played)

I haven't made any other ILs yet unless people actually show interest in wanting to run more category extentions like all mini medals, etc.

United States

Sounds like a good baseline to me.
