8-3 help

I have been dying a lot in 8-3, so i wondered if there is a spreadsheet of every hammer bros pattern, cuz i couldn't find it

There isn't and unless you play at a high level, you're not really gonna have any clue what's coming. It's better to learn how to deal with the bros on the fly.

If you enter 8-3, the first set of Hammer Bros., most likely only one of them will be on the bottom row, and the 2nd, on the 2nd row. You can hit the Hammer Bro on the 2nd row from the 1st row, and wait until the other Hammer Bro rises to one of the other rows. Once you defeat both Hammer Bros., you can collect a hidden mushroom from the 2nd last block to the right in the 2nd row.

If you are confused of what I mean, which you probably won't. You can reply to this comment & I am sure that I will be able to give you an easier way to explain the text above this paragraph before long.

Thanks! :)

What Mars02 said isn't necessarily true, there are 8 total bros. The first set, the second set, then the "gauntlet" of 4...

The first set can be every combination of top middle and bottom. Always run on the bottom, if there's a bro on the bottom, then you'll have to do a double kill like this...

https://agenheimer.com/smb/8-3%20double%20kill.gif

The second set requires you to react to the position of the bros. You're going to START jumping high, but then let off jump when (if) you see a bro on the top level. So based on the position of the bros, you'll either go top or middle. It's rare, but sometimes you'll have to do ANOTHER double kill because they'll be middle top.

The trick with the last four is you want to jump early enough that you can LET OFF jump if they also jump, that way you will have a downward trajectory when you touch them. If you are moving downward when you touch an enemy, you will kill them and live (unless you touch their hammer).

There are basically two places that you can die even if you play correctly. The third bro in the gauntlet can throw a hammer in a spot that makes it VERY hard to go through, and the fourth bro can jump and have a hammer right at his face, which makes it hard to kill him. If one of those two things happen, you'll probably die and there's honestly not much you can do about it.

Once you get into the 5:01 time or so, you will start being at 8-3 on predictable framerules, so you'll know what they do. When you know what they do, it transforms one of the harder levels in the game to the second easiest (after 4-1)... it's honestly super easy when you know what they're going to do. It's the randomness of the bros that makes 8-3 hard.

I made a thread about predictable bro patterns for sub-5 routes HERE --> https://www.speedrun.com/smb1/thread/mvn8w

Good Luck

Darpey, you are correct. The Hammer Bros. don't keep the same pattern every time you enter 8-3. Also, I was only talking about the first 4 Hammer Bros.

But the way I described the patterns can be a good way to get past those first 4 Hammer Bros. easily.

For a beginner anyway...

Right: 1.) @Mars02, you realise you can edit posts right? You don't need to post 3 times in a row in quick succession, that's flooding, flooding is annoying. 2.) Darpey, thanks a ton. I keep tripping on this bit too, but I'm getting it a lot more consistently now I understand it better. Thanks mate.
