hey, so, I was wondering if anyone had some fun/dumb sub 10 minute games I could run, or categories in games, I like doing small runs for now while I practice my larger ones but want some new ones to go for.

SMB 1

Texas, USA

MvM Kappa But in all seriousness, try "Mari0" or "How Smart Are You?"

Michigan, USA

http://www.speedrun.com/ots I will never, ever stop recommending this game in this forum! :)

Poland

Vox Populi Vox Dei(a werewolf thriller) is a flash game, and there's only one run here. Go for it.

New Jersey, USA

I second OTS! I haven't started practicing, because I've got so many games that I'm trying to decide between. It's an amazing game, it's short, and it's fun. If you don't want to run it, then I would also recommend just playing it for fun. It's the game that got me back into video games after 10 years of not playing anything. Plus, if you start playing it, then I will have more incentive to play it with someone else on my beginner level :D

You should give Shower With Your Dad Simulator a shot, if you're into the sub-1min things, like MvM. It's a lot more random than MvM, though. http://www.speedrun.com/swyds

You Have to Burn the Rope is very MvM. It's 30-40sec, and it's free. http://www.speedrun.com/yhtbtr

I'm literally in the same boat as you. I want a short game that can be practiced in segments and that has a leaderboard for segments. If you're looking for fun/dumb, I would also suggest Spanky's Quest. There's a Game Boy version as well as a SNES version. The full game is about an hour, but it can be practiced in 10-15min segments. http://www.speedrun.com/Spankys_Quest_GB

The Spanky's Quest GB mod also told me that Super Mario World has a good learning curve, and the leaderboards are broken into sections.

Can you tell I'm just looking for competition? :D Seriously, let me know what you end up playing. I've got mostly Game Boy games and Mighty Gunvolt lined up, but I wouldn't mind shifting my focus a little. The way you tackled MvM makes me think that you'd be a fun person to compete against :D

OTS! OTS! http://www.speedrun.com/ots

EDIT: I should also mention that the OTS community is awesome and helpful. Whenever someone new watches his Twitch stream, BeardedBusker makes it a point to explain the game's mechanics, and he does an impromptu walkthrough. Good stuff.

Link's Awakening DX or Link's Awakening any% The more popular categories are No WW/OoB, which are around an hour, but the true any% WR's for the games are about 4.5 minutes and 1.5 minute respectively.

Kobe, you're making me blush! :) When I get back to streaming next week, by the way, SWYDS is one I was considering playing blind! I'll have to consider it as an "appetizer" speedgame.

Not to beat a dead horse, but right now OTS is on sale as part of the Developer Alliance Bundle, which includes three other platformers: Camera Obscura, Polarity, and BEEP. On sale for $1.49 US until July 18! I'm learning Polarity, which has a thriving leaderboard and great speed-tech. I tried (and failed) Camera Obscura, which does not have a community but jongyon darn-near optimized it, and it is an awesome speedrun to watch! BEEP... to be honest, I find it kind of meh, but it has a cute art style and a few runs here.

kobe, you also seem like a very good person to be competing with, and I hope that I can challenge some of your other runs soon as well.

Super Mario Star Scramble 1/2/2 Ghost Island/ 3 are all fun Mario games to run, I can help you learn strats in the levels. It consists of collecting stars and unlocking more levels. Keep in mind that SMSS3's only mod hasn't come back in forever. So I can definetly help you learn these games!

I third OTS! I'm not good at it, but it's fun anyway. :P

However, I believe Red Trigger has been released yesterday - it's free on Steam and beatable casually in about 30 minutes on your first try? I found one glitch and a couple of strats that should make this game runnable in about 4 minutes.

North Carolina, USA

I would also recommend Super Mario Star Scramble 1,2,2:Ghost Island, and 3. They are really fun and not one is over 10 mins. The mod for 3 only did one run of that game and we started submitting runs the day later. While 3 months have passed and nothing has happened we just keep track of WRs for that game ourselves. I moderate all the other games and i check multiple times a day so the other leaderbaords should not be a problem. I am coming back to the games and i would love to have another runner interested. http://www.speedrun.com/smbss1 http://www.speedrun.com/super_mario_bros._star_scramble_2 http://www.speedrun.com/smbss2gi http://www.speedrun.com/ss3ss All links are in order with the last one being the one where you can not get a time up.

Luxembourg

I would recommend Grand theft Auto Chinatown wars it's very short

Red Beard.

Fun Flash game. Your first run should only take you 5 minutes. It gets pretty intense the better you get. WR is nearly impossible to beat but 2nd place is realistically beatable.

New Brunswick, Canada

@breakdancinggamer have you tried to get Mod yourself for 3?

Puerto Rico

Try to play Nintendo World Championships 90. It's a veeery short game!
