go through wall trick

Hi,

I just discover today a trick easy to do (but perhaps just with a keyboard because I just play with a keyboard and I find a set up that i think is impossible to do with a pad) that I think wan improve the WR significantly. The TAS go through the wall quite few times and in fact, it is not so hard to do. When I play casually, many time I died because of that, but I just find today a way to go through the wall 100% of the time. This trick can be usefull many tmie. For exemple, when WR do the fast climbing (I don't know the technical term) to reach the top (with a left, slash right ), he reach the top of the ladder. But you can execute that ealier and go throught the wall a little to save some time.

There are some moment where this trick can be very useful to cut the level design. For example, in the stage 2-2, second area, the world record go to the left, climb the ladder, reach the top plateforme and go to the right. You can directely go to the right with this trick, after activate the scrolling (like for the tricks in stage 4-1). That save a lot of time -> you don't need to do the damage boost with the bullet because, like the TAS, the wind blow to the right when you jump the cliff.

I detect today, every moment where this trick can be useful. If someone is interested (because personnally, I'm tooo bad to improve the WR, and I run only ninpoless run), I can try to make a tutorial video (but I don't know how to do that)

edit : I think I understand why nobody use this trick. With a keyboard, you can press simultane left and right button. Perhaps it not allow to play with a keyboard for a speedrun ?

A normal NES dpad will not allow for left+right key presses at the same time. There are many TAS tricks like this in Ninja Gaiden 1 as well, but they can only be done with a keyboard or emulator (TAS). Therefore, they are not possible or permitted in actual runs unless someone were to discover a way of doing it on a standard NES brick controller.

It can actually be done on a Dogbone controller on real NES hardware too. Broken Dogbone controllers are known to do this as well. However, since it is do specific to keyboards, emulators, and the Dogbone...its not allowed.

Ok, I was sure there something strange, because it's a so old game. But now I understand why the quick climbing is so hard for me. When I try to do this, I always died by go trhough the wall :/ There is a way to confiure the emulator, to play with a keyboard and do not allow this type of input ?

I'm not sure about NG 2, but in NG 1, if you wall climb too fast, even with a controller, when you go into the next screen, you can go through the bottom of the wall and will usually die. It's a very common thing in which most runners learn very quickly to wait a second before doing any climbing. Again, I do not know if it's the same in NG2 or not.

Either way, thanks for posting your discovery.
