Run comments?

just thought about it but I think it would be cool if we could comment on someone's run directly, like youtube/reddit and give each other advice/congratulate new record holders on the run page itself. imo it could make the site a little more lively and encourage helping each other out, as well as giving people the opportunity to ask a runner why they did something/give them advice on a bit they're doing wrong. I know we could just use youtube for this, but it would still be cool to comment on a run directly on the page rather than on another site.

Canada

I think this has been brought up in the past, and I think the general consensus was that it's kinda pointless. It would mostly just be filled with comments like "good job" or "nice run!", and since services like YouTube already have comments systems there's really no point in bringing that to the site.

United States

Game forums are the best place to discuss the games. Having those discussion splintered to specific runs that have the potential to become obsolete and hidden is not a good move.

Antarctica

The pointless comments wouldn’t be the issue so much as the trolling comments. This site gets enough bots as it is (though it’s actually gone down in the past 6-8 months), now imagine if those bots could post comments on any run. Now couple that with the toxicity that is often on YouTube in the comments section and you can understand why it would be a moderation nightmare (for site full/content mods and game mods).

It’s genrally assumed that the forums and discords are better for asking questions (or even using a person’s social media links). The bad outweighs the good for implementing something like comments on runs.

I'm going to end all my runs with "make sure to like comment and subscribe" from now on

It could be the runners who take care of moderating comments on their runs. For example, if they receive an unpleasant comment, they could delete it themselves. Like on YouTube, I decide which comment can stay and which comment disappears on my videos.

even at low run counts like you have @lolman-0027 like 48 runs, would you want to click delete a few dozen times because someone found it funny to meme on every of your runs?

Yeah, except no one does that, YT comments still are awful even though they could be deleted by the video creator

Try to think positively for a time.

Why? We know from YT that people just write dumb comments that are more annoying than anything else and we also know that the creators just don't care about it.

Then you expect the SRC staff to code a whole comment system which really just adds more stuff for the mods to do (for the above reasons) and you know how annoying it can be on a leaderboard with over 7000 runs (Odyssey).

@lolman-0027 I'd love to but humanity proves time and time again that they manage to disappoint. and considering the first rule of developement is to never trust users to do things right, I think I'll stay with my realistic approach.

You're right, there is a lot of kikoo (immature kids) on the site.

I'd be more concerned with the Coming soon™ message system.

Positive or not, adding an option to comment on runs on this site is a stupid idea, plus, everytime someone made a topic for it, people gave tons of good reasons why it shouldn't be a thing.

As for runners having to take care of the comments on their own runs, personnaly, i think this is a REALLY bad idea; for some games you have to practice a lot on top of doing runs (and some games takes hours also). As a runner, you'd want to do runs or practice / learn stuff, not manage comments (especially when ATLEAST half of them are shitposts).

And, of course, the more games you run, the worse this would get. I'm pretty sure having this feature would enable trolls to comment on obsolete runs as well (there's always a way to look at obsolete runs so someone would do it eventually).

Now, if anything, you could suggest that leaderboard mods actually manage comments on runs, but they already have enough things to do (especially if they actually care about the leaderboard and do more than verify runs).

Honestly, i wonder why people still suggest this feature when they know how shit most comments are on every site that has this feature.

yeah sorry for sparking up an old topic, I was pretty tired when I posted this so there wasn't much of a forethought regarding this. I forgot that people should always be trusted to abuse a system because it's human nature, so yeah run likes would be 10x better imo, however we do need a random game button 👀

@HowDenKing also 574 pending actions bruh
