New Speedrunner for Dreamcast, lookin for some insight/tips

As the name suggests i'll be speedrunning for the dreamcast! though i have some questions regarding it.

So i've set up livesplits and all that. and couldn't find a dreamcast specific live split for Sonic Adventure, i assume one hasn't been made. and everyone uses the one that's been linked in 'Resources' if that's the case then that'll be fine. My issue is, it doesn't translate very well using the dreamcast. with the PC disk version i've found that it does it automatically. however with the dreamcast version, the splits don't change automatically to the next one,

(An example being, Beating Chaos 0, and moving onto emerald coast, emerald coast to egg hornet, egg hornet to windy valley. so on and so forth)

Also, is there any rules on quality of video? I understand that video evidence is required for dreamcast speedruns particularly. And i'm fine with that. But i'm rather in a tight situation with money, As i don't have a job. And i've been on my tippy toes with my girl's rent, so i've been using a easycap for the past while, It'll capture at 30 frames, but not 60. i assumed that'd be okay since Based on list's that i've looked at. SA1 doesn't run at 60 frames,

I'd recommend getting a GV-USB2 https://www.amazon.com/DATA-connection-video-capture-GV-USB2/dp/B00428BF1Y It's cheap and good quality. (EasyCap works too so you're also good) You'll just have to take some time with setup with Amarec. If that's not possible, a phone or camera recording of your tv screen will be serviceable until you're able to get an appropriate capture solution. As a rule of thumb for video quality, we expect all videos to be legible enough to see the timer, life counter and general movement with no interruptions as well as preferably having your timer somewhere visible in the video.

There is currently no autosplitter for Dreamcast, so you'll have to manually start and split during the run.

Amarec? Would Streamlabs OBS be fine? I stream so i'm assuming it'd be okay to just post the VOD? or is that a little different? I already own the Easycap and it's set up n stuff. And yeah you can see all that stuff. It's just not top quality, i'll post a picture in a few minutes,

Any rules on doing manual splits? or do you just go to the next split as soon as your finished that level. or is it in between loading times?

That quality is more than fine. Amarec would just be for interfacing for with the capture card and using with your recording software of choice. You can upload or stream video proof, just submit it as a link when you submit your Personal Best for Verification.

Only rules concerning manual splits are that your first split begins on fadeout from character select and ends after the timer stops on the boss.* (This may be different depending on the category you're running so please consult the rules on each leaderboard's rules tab)

We can adjust for most mistakes you make with timing. Good luck and look forward to seeing your run.

Awesome! Thanks Shane :)

By the way what's considered a unofficial version? like a modded version? or an overhaul?

Florida, USA

Unofficial Versions are any modded versions such as Better SADX or versions not directly developed by Sonic Team or SEGA. So officially the accepted versions of the game are: '98 Dreamcast Release '03 Gamecube Port '03-04 PC Disc Release '10 Xbox/PS3 Release '11 Steam Release

These are the generally accepted versions as they are directly from SEGA/Sonic Team.

You may have noticed some very old runs being rejected. This is because we have decided to archive the leaderboards done prior to IGT becoming the main timing method. Prior to archiving, most of the runs prior to April 22, 2018 were at the bottom of the leaderboards due to only having RTA timing, wh
