How important is a run's look to you?

As in, how it will look to stream/video viewers. There's a run I'm considering that has a lot of difficult tricks in it that I as a runner find very interesting. (The game itself is rather mediocre) But as I practice it, I find they're kinda the perfect storm of really hard ¤and¤ not that interesting to look at. It's a lot of clipping onto tiny invisible spaces where you're not supposed to stand and jumping around the invisible hitboxes for things that are actually 10 feet away from you but will block your progress if you don't. I feel like it would boring as all piss to watch me try to run this, and while we run what we want there's a certain level where we want people to actually watch it, isn't there?

Was having a simular problem with WARP (appart from horrible control issues) where you mostly "only" have optimized movement and do some very wonky glitches which may fail really badly. I still liked to do it and continued. What I think is that when a Game isn't that interesting, you yourself gotta make up for it then. By that I mean trying to be as active, entertaining and communicating (only possible if active chat ofc). The bigger your community/stream is, usually the esaier that part is as well since you have some regulars which stick by no matter what and provide a possibllity to interact.

All in all: If you really like it, go for it, but don't expect to be superly watched if you're not able/don't want to make up for it yourself.

Also, think about how beardedbusker welcomes new viewers to his stream. He always takes a moment--or even a whole run--to explain what the heck he's doing in the game. OTS may not be as clippy as the game you're thinking of, and it's a really short run, but there are a lot of interesting things going on that wouldn't be immediately apparent if he wasn't so gracious :D

As PreFiXAUT and kobe already hinted out above it's gonna be a good idea to try to make up something for the boring-to-watch run in the stuff outside the speedrunning itself - like trying to be more active in mutually communicating with the viewers who bother to take time to watch your videos you think overly monotonous.

Well concerning the "look" of the run tending to be boring / interesting to watch actually it can also be applied to some of the RPG games to some extent in my opinion, but only if you could offer the viewers the second option that can enough substitute for the content of the video it would be rather no problem in most of the cases I guess.

Perhaps it would help to speak in specifics. The game is Pneuma: Breath of Life. This thread has most of the tricks I'm referring to -> http://www.speedrun.com/pbol/thread/obxta

I'm pretty good at a couple of them, but several more are <5% for me. And they're just not that interesting to look at -- are they?

Those are actually pretty cool.

Part of the fun that I have while watching speed runs is the "omg will they make it?!" moments. Maybe it's just me, but those skips are interesting.

Tech or explanations on what is going on or even going into detail on diferent possible outcomes of things as you do them is always nice to give them idea of what is correct or wrong when preforming a run or even a trick etc in the game being presented.

Normally I talk about what I'm about to do as well as what I should be expecting to happen if done correctly as I do it, Alternatively if it fails or something has to be done instead, Explaining what alternatives or why it did not work is helpful for yourself as a pep talk and reminder and also informative to others that may watch the run later or during and possibly lead to more interaction about the game and whats going on etc.

Mainly just talk about the game or what ever is currently going on or relevant, If that is boring or not interesting for you then talk about other things that can still allow you to focus and still be interactive.
