Why GTA V Classic% should get rid of the enforced Ending C

Nobody is saying you can't run the category you want to run. We just want to update the name on the leaderboard to "classic% Ending C" is all.

quote from zoton2:

"Ending C is bad" - I do agree to this mostly, but again, people have talked about it (literally, right in this thread) and nothing really came from it, and actual runners of the game wanted it left as is (or didn't care I guess) so nothing happened yet.

i would like to counter this argument by saying that after quite a big fight on IRC there was something that happened and the category should have changed for that current time atleast, i will explain.

Basically me and KVD went on IRC and argued, dekap was there and a bunch of other people. after a bunch of retarded namecalling and point fingers of who was wrong(from both sides) we decided to fix it by majority vote, at that time these were the current runners: Dekap KVD MeridianPrime Me 5th runner(who i forgot the name of)

even with the 5th runner who was not present voting for keeping the C ending resriction, 60% of current runners wanted it to be removed, and so we agreed it had to be removed until new runners came onto the scene and decided it had to be added again. At that current moment it was also never on the speedrun.com description/rules that you should have an ending C restriction, this was added later even though that argument had changed the category, this was added arbitrarily by some mod.

so the fact that nothing really came of it wasn't because of the discussion, it was because of the mod that just randomly added the rule back

I see your point, ACuteStreamMonster, but renaming to "Any% (Classic Ruleset)" doesn't accomplish anything. As far as "jargon should be coherent"

jargon: "special words or expressions that are used by a particular profession or group and are difficult for others to understand."

That last clause is the one I'm getting at. No matter what we call it, it will not make sense the first time you see it. "Any% Classic Ruleset" is in no way more coherent than just "Classic." But how is this? It's because even though upon first glance, "Any% Classic Ruleset" seems more coherent, it still begs the question - "what is the classic ruleset?" Whether you Google it or ask it, you'll get your answer. Same thing if it was just "Classic" - Google or ask, you'll get the exact same answer.

No matter what changes we make to category names, it won't change anything. Moreover, Any% only seems "coherent" because you already know what it is. When you first encounter the term, it's going to seem alien... until it's explained, or researched.

Trevor% is a poor name, I agree, but renaming it won't change the fact that, upon first encounter with the term, it will require some research. You suggest we use "The Jewel Store Job RTA (Classic Ruleset)" but that's still a name that requires some research to understand it. Classic Ruleset? RTA? Do you have to beat the Jewel Store Job or just unlock it?

Anyway, confusing terms that don't make sense to outsiders - that's what jargon is. No matter what field, what term, or what definition, you're going to think "what the hell?" when you hear/see said term.

I kinda disagree - classic isn't a percentage simply put, any% (classic ruleset) at least acknowledges that, even if it's no more 'accessible' to new watchers in terms of comprehensibility

I don't think it makes a large difference in reality, but I'd still be very on-board with making the change.

Also, dropping Ending C from the official 'classic%' rules would be good too I think - you could even have it as a variable listed on the leaderboard within classic%, similar to how 'segments' is a variable within the HL leaderboards

So name aside, who wants to run Ending C and who wants to run any ending?

I just got off the phone with The Weinstein Company (film studio) after bringing to their attention that an upcoming release of theirs (The Hateful Eight, directed by Quentin Tarantino) has a title which does not work well with a large portion of the population and their inability to do a minuscule bit of research. I have generously provided them a name for this upcoming flick which I feel will better explain what it's all about.

Hold on a minute here, let me just get out my notes, excuse me for just a moment here, alright, here they are, ¤clears throat¤:

"Movie (American western film set after the Civil War, somewhere in Wyoming, concerning the events which unfold as eight westerners seek refuge in a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass during a blizzard)"
