Assistance for where to improve my run times

So currently I'm running any% at 5:11 and some change. I've started to incorporate pipe jumps starting with 1-2. I know I need to learn the pipe jumps in 8-1 to pick up 5 seconds on that level. Where else can I pick some time up (excluding the wall clip in 1-2 for now)? The video of my most recent run where I've incorporated the 1-2 pipe jump is below for reference:

I know I totally biffed the second room in 8-4 by accidentally missing the hidden block. Can I pick up some time yet in the turn around room right after (the one before the swimming section) or in the swimming section itself?

Well definitely not the clip in 1-2 .... unless you want to go for top 5 on the leaderboards - that's literally the last thing you'd add... after a few tens of thousands of attempts under your belt - and a low 4:56

learn an efficient 3 bump wrong warp for 4-2 (or even a fast 4 bump would be quite a bit faster than you're doing) ... and don't pause as much in 8-1

Learn to react to the bill at the end of 8-2... there's three things he can do, and you can react to them all... if your reaction time is fast enough.

Learn the "two pixel" wall jump in 8-4 - it's actually must easier than it seems

https://www.speedrun.com/smb1/guide/u49lr - here's some of the "tricks" in a sub-5 run although some of it is outdated... I've learned a lot about smb since making that guide

Other easy time saves you could add would be this: Optimize the 1-2 small jumps, you have 2 framerules to save here. You can slow down a little while doing it too Learn to do optimal 8-2, or add BBBB. Doing optimal BBBB (Bonk, Brush, Boing, Bounce I think it's short for) would be 4 framerules faster than your current run. This is xeroxfiend doing BBBB (he's on the left) And then, everything Darpey said

I don't have a lot of time to write a proper post right now but here's what I can say:

  1. Here's a safe strats run showing consistent strategies that can get you around a 5:03 nearly every time

  2. Don't bother with pipe jumps yet - you don't need them until around a 5:02

  3. Learn BBBB in 8-2 as Aldyn says - you can get a 339/340 literally every time

Nice - I'm working on BBBB now which seems easy enough, and I see in 8-1 two spots where I can save time.

Thanks to all for your tips and guidance! Onwards to sub 5:10 I grind.

Thanks again everybody; I completed my first 5:10.xxx run this morning. I severely screwed up in 8-4 and lost 6 seconds there but everybody's pointers has quickly paid off. BBBB alone saves 4 seconds. My next personal goal is going to be a sub 5:05 time as I can see barring any mistakes now I should be able to possibly get around a 5:02 time.

Anyways, thanks again peeps!
