YouTube degrading my videos quality

I use OBS to record my runs from PC, in 1080p resolution with 60fps framerate. I just noticed that on many of my old and recent videos uploaded to YouTube, those videos still look kinda blurry in some places, even when you watch them at the highest quality on full screen (even the part of the static Livesplit text is affected).

Why does it happen? And how can I ensure it won't?

Are you sure YouTube is doing it, or do your raw files also have this issue? In any case the solution is probably to increase your bitrate. Do you know what your current bitrate is?

The raw files themselves don't have this issue. but regarding bitrate, I see two things: OBS is not consistent in the final output. In some games the bitrate is between 3000-6000kbps, and in other games it can reach 1000-2000kbps. (although the resolution and frame rate stay the same). Also, any kind of post-processing I'm doing on some of my videos (usually cutting a long video to the relevant portion of a run), cuts the bitrate by about half.

YouTube mostly change the quality on videos with less than 2000kbps bitrate, but not all of them.

I guess I can look more at the editing program I use to see that it won't happen (I use ShotCut). About OBS, is there a way to ensure a certain level of bitrate?

in my OBS settings --> Output --> Recording, I have those settings: https://i.imgur.com/ROri4Lk.png

In short: you can set a bitrate. I often record larger than necessary and encode down (I use handbrake for this); when I setup to encode I can also trim the video as necessary by selecting a start/stop point.

I consider things like this to be a "play around with it until it works well for you" deal.

Ah, now I see the advanced output mode. Thank you, I will play with it and see how it goes.

Just wanted to pop for a sec and say that low bitrate probably WAS the issue all along. I uploaded a video with 4500kbps (after tinkering with OBS) and so far it's fantastic.

Thank you guys again for the help!
