New Category: NG+ Hard All levels

Hi there,

My friend CinNec and I have just finished a run of NG+ Hard All levels and would like to submit it. That catergory is not currently being monitored however. A forum threat seemed to be the easyest way of making contact with a mod, seeing as there is no direct messaging yet. We would be enthralled if a mod could register this catergory so we can send in our run. Thank you in advance.

Oh and NG+ all levels would be amazing as well!

Well, I can sure add NG+ All Levels, no problem.

I won't restrict it to any difficulty though, since you the goal is to beat the game as fast as possible and choosing a harder difficulty is "your own fault", because it's slower. Dividing the Leaderboards by diffuculty would remove a lot of the competitive aspect, since we would have all the current Categories and subcategories times three.

You can retime all your ILs and add them to the IL leaderboards if you like. It was designed for that very matter I mentioned earlier.

Though I see where you are comming from I don't see the problem with having seperate difficulty Catergories. Games like Super Mario world have a variety of Catergories as well, depending on the handycap taken. I would actually say Hard mode speedruns require a different set of skills, add management and such, because of the fact that on hard enemies don't die in one hit and can easily overwhelm you.

I don't see how having more categories will remove a lot of the comeptitive aspect. The community is small, and some Catergories don't even have a run submitted yet. A different style of run might even encourage people that haven't run yet or existing runners to try something else.

You're not restricted to running the game on a harder difficulty. You can still submit your runs the new category all the same, it just won't be the most optimal.

I personally find it very discouraging to start running a game when there are too many categories. This is an example: http://www.speedrun.com/mgs2

Yes, the community is small, but that is exactly I think we should not split up the almost empty leaderboards even more. If more people show interest in running Gauntlet, I would definitely consider adding more categories that are based on difficulty.

I'm actually sorry for not adding your requested category, but currently, it's not going to work in my opinion. Yet again, you can always use the IL for NG+ hard.

Hard mode is a much more interesting aspect to the game, but i could do with or without it. Gauntlet being advertised as hard and dying over and over again isn't really showcased in easy speedruns of the game, so it's a strong case to have the higher difficulty as a category. But on that same note we won't really attract many newer players to the game either way. That being said optimizing your gameplay further beyond resource management and having a good route is probably (as shown by the op) something of more interest to the players that already play the game.

PS nice NG+ run crushing my time :) I should have rolled as elf more and not made so many mistakes, I may come back to this game, but easy mode got boring after a couple of runs. The holy grail time save of 1 or 2 cycle morak is pretty offputting too.

PSS if you want someone elses Hard mode NG+ any% run to compete with, iirc i felt pretty good about this, even though I didn't complete the run (but let's just pretend morak doesn't exist...)

I'd say, by all means post it! I mean you are like the dude that made this game viable to run with your rule show-off. Having a bigger Hard mode community might get more people joining + get it verified as an actual category.
