extremely minor feature request: somewhere to write rules that show for all categories, rather than having to copy them in to each one

Czech Republic
  1. Would it be possible to make a WYSIWYG editor with ability to upload pictures, html support and youtube support (like phpbb forums)? I would like to write a detailed guide, but the current "Guides" section only allows plain text.

  2. It seems like variables does not support special characters such as "_% etc.

EDIT: 3) When you click on a level/track in "Level Leaderboard", which has variables (maybe it does that even for just platforms, I didn't try), could it NOT filter runs with only first variable? I mean, when I click on a level, I wanna see ALL runs for that specific level no matter how many variables it has. Here's an example: http://www.speedrun.com/Need_for_Speed_III_Hot_Pursuit/ - If I click on Hometown, which has currently 2 runs, only 1 will be visible, because the second one was done with "Traction OFF". The filter shouldn't work like that, it should display all runs by default, then you filter whatever you need.

[quote=mobiusman] extremely minor feature request: somewhere to write rules that show for all categories, rather than having to copy them in to each one [/quote] Something that's nice to have, but might take a bit of work to implement, so it might be a while before we get around to it.

  1. A WYSIWYG editor is definitely something that we want to do, but a fairly big update. The Guides (and Forums) sections do support BBCode already though, see http://www.speedrun.com/post/iftju for more information. There's just no easy interface for it yet.

  2. This was a bug that's now been fixed, thanks for letting us know. :)

  3. Actually, it doesn't filter runs with only the first variable, the problem is that it only shows the fastest run by that person regardless of the variables. The variables system will be overhauled down the line, which will allow you to chose whether to take a variable into consideration or not when it determines the fastest time, but I can't make any promises on when that update will be done.

Thanks, but I have another suggestion :)

Could you add a number after each category name showing how many runs that category have? If you have multiple categories and there are no runs in the very first category (the one that is displayed first when you click on full-game leaderboard or any level), but there are runs in other categories, you actually can't see if it has any runs till you click on all of them, which is a bit tedious imho. This way you would immediately see how many runs each category have and just ignore those with zero.

It's not a big deal though.

That kinda makes me wonder though, why have a category without runs first?

Adding a number to every single category doesn't seem like a good idea, but maybe some indication if a category is empty could be added, will have to think about it.

Having a category without runs yet lets you put the rules up.

Filtering the latest pb's/wr's on the Latest Runs. For example I only want to see the latest GTA runs

Category without runs makes sense so users know what they can easily submit to. I like the idea of denoting 0 runs specifically, maybe with an asterisk or something for the short term. Number of runs itself isn't so important I think.

So when someone has a run in a certain IL/category/game and that IL/category/game gets deleted, we get a sight like this in profiles:

Now then, since the game/category/IL page no longer exists we cannot exactly go and kill off the videos ourselves. We better get that fixed.

It's to help resurrect the page if it gets accidentally deleted/deleted by a glitch.

PeteThePlayer, that's one of the things that will be fixed once the multicoop update goes live (which should be in a few days, hopefully).

another extremely minor request: ability to order games within a series that were released in the same year

Hi guys, love everything about the site, but just two less important feature requests/suggestions.

Resources: As far as I can tell, only mods for games can currently post things in the resources tab. Would it be possible to get closed/by verification or user whitelist/open submission options for this? This is not terribly urgent, and it would only streamline the process of populating the resources tab for communities that use it. Also, to echo i_o_l's post from earlier in this thread, an indicator of how many items are in the other tabs would be nice. I've had to specifically bring them to peoples' attention when discussing guides, splits, tools, etc. because there's no indication that there is anything there.

Forums: Also as far as I can tell, there is no way to be notified when there is a new forum post/reply for game forums. I missed a post I would like to have known about 3 days ago for one of my speedgames.

I'd really like it if it were possible to set the precision of times based on category. For example in Metroid Prime the IGT only shows hours:minutes so all the times have ":00" after them. It's annoying to look at is all.

Another suggestion: Request a level

Our Tomb Raider community is used to speedrun fan-made levels and there's hundreds of them, so requesting a new level when submitting one would be great :)

Also, it was already probably reported, but one player currently can't have two or more runs in the same category AND same level with different variables. As far as I understand it, your system only checks for category and runner name and then keeps the faster time, but doesn't consider different variables, which could have a completely different time like in case of Tomb Raider with glitches/no glitches variable.

United States

We in the Metroid Prime community would really like it if it were possible to sort by IGT by default. Every run on the leaderboards for all three games was optimized for IGT so sorting by RTA is just not accurate. For now I've set it up such that all the runs show the RTA being the same as the IGT just to get it to sort right, but this has the side effect of not knowing what the RTA is for any of the runs since some people might like to see that.

Then there's the issue of the fact that Metroid Prime only shows hours and minutes but seconds are turned on by default, so every time has a meaningless ":00" after it. (It's been debated in the community whether it really is a good idea to use IGT when it's so coarse a measurement, but everyone relevant is firmly in favor of keeping it the way it is.) It would be great if we could turn the seconds off for IGT, but not for RTA.

Thanks for the help! Even with these issues I still think this is a great website.

From what I remember, IGT sorting and higher control of those things was going to come in the timing update, but that was still being worked on.

United States

We're aware the timers need improvements.

I was hoping for an arbitrary amount or arbitrarily configured/named timers, which appear in the selected order, and each of which is sortable. Some users also want time conversion between versions.

It's not an easy update, and may still be a while before it is implemented.

United States

I'm glad to here there's thought to it at least. Thank you for that.

United States

Thanks for the response. Glad it's being worked on.
