Planning to start doing runs very soon!

Hello! My name is 07ScapeSkiller, but you can call me Joey. I plan to start running the "All F2P Quests (Exc. Imp Catcher)" category very soon, which I have just started to dub nobeads% since it is easier to type. I am going to do my first nobeads% run this weekend, and I have full intentions to continue running it for quite a while. I'm fairly certain in the end the run will be around 2-4 hours long, which is totally manageable for a speed-run imo.

Since I want to get pretty involved in this community, I'd like to introduce myself and hopefully have some good discussions! I've always been a huge fan of both speed-running and RuneScape, so I figured I would combine the two of them. This is something I have talked about and wanted to do for many months so I am very excited to officially begin!

I've played RuneScape for over 10 years, my current main accounts being Pcfl_Bone & Pcfl_Alt. I am a streamer, albeit still fairly small (8500 followers), but my interest in these runs has already begun to spark a lot of interest from many other people! My goal is to help turn this into a fun category with a lot of competition, while also strengthening the community as a whole. I'm fairly involved in the OSRS streaming scene and I expect quite a lot of support and buzz to be generated once I officially start.

Working with my buddy Daubs, my stream (and hopefully all of you soon!) I am going to to get a really optimized route written and planned out. Once I have that (unless one already exists?) I will of course share it with all of you! First off though, I do have a couple questions I'd like to ask regarding the rules of the "All F2P Quests (Exc. Imp Catcher)" run. These questions are based off just my own observations and the small handful of runs I have seen so far.

  1. Getting members is allowed, but is doing members quests allowed? For example, doing the Waterfall quest to get that 30 attack/strength to speed up future combat encounters. Or Witch's House for the mage exp. If not, why not?

  2. For Shield of Arrav, I noticed in the one run submitted by Phantasem that he/she created the helper account at the same time as his other character. Could I create an "official" helper account that I would set up beforehand with multiples of the gang-specific items you need? Then I would just park it in the proper spot, and use it on each run. That way it shaves off some time and requires far less preparation per run. If not, why not?

Those are the two main questions that come to mind right now. Eventually I would want to branch out to other categories, but for now I am going to focus on nobeads% runs. I'm very excited to start running this category and I hope to meet the handful of you that are currently involved. Together I truly believe we could turn this (and perhaps others) into something much, much bigger! :D

Can't wait to read your responses.

Hello Joey, Im Rex. I basically created the sub-section for Runescape on Speedrun.com, Welcome! Now onto your questions. There is already a run out for the "nobeads%" and yes you are aloud to do all the necessary quests you want out of the members quests aslong as all the f2p quests except imp catcher is completed.

AS you can see from Phantasem's video he has recorded both accounts and shown the gameplay of both accounts during the whole run, so from creating the account on tutorial island all the way up to shield of arrav. So setting up the account before hand is not aloud for that reason that it all needs to be recorded.

If you need to ask anymore questions feel free to ask them here, or on my twitter which is linked under my bio!

Nice to meet you, Rex! I have followed you on Twitter and I'd love if you did the same :) I'll be updating my profile immedietly following this post.

That's good to know about the members quest, though! Being able to do that will surely save a decent bit of time off, and make the final fight against Elvarg much easier and consistent.

Regarding the Shield of Arrav question, does it HAVE to be recorded live at the same time as opposed to beforehand to show it was legit? What illegitimacy or unfair advantage could be gained from having the helper account already setup? I'm fine with this ruling, but I am a little curious of the reasoning and also if a pre-setup helper account could be considered.

Once again, thank you! I'm sure I'll have plenty more questions as time goes on.

Just started following you then! :)

So for the run to be classed as a "legit" run we'd asked people to record everything they do. I know setting up an account isn't really harming anything that could give you an advantage. If you check out this video of a previous run that has been submitted I think it'd might show a better example than how I have described it.

Thank you!

I've already checked out that video, I'm actually mainly using that one to officially route everything out. That makes sense though, shouldn't be too much of a hassle besides having to create twice as many accounts :P I assume creating the helper account, getting it set up when I have downtime, and then logging out of it until I need it is fine? Just as long as I record the entire process during the actual run, right?

From your last post 07ScapeSkiller that is fine yes :)

It is wonderful to meet you, Chris! I am excited and eager to help breathe some life into this small yet growing community. I believe there is a lot of potential, it just needs a big push and some hype! And yes, nobeads% is much easier to type out than "All F2P Quests Ironman (Except Imp Catcher) Run" so I'd like to make that a thing if at all possible.

Being able to do members quests would be a huge time saver, and makes no sense to restrict that considering membership is allowed anyways. It's within all the rules and makes the run faster, so it's a win win there.

I do indeed plan on running nobeads% as an ironman/member, and I still believe the run can be cut down to 2-4 hours. No offense intended, but the run you submitted was pretty sloppy and there is potential for some huge time saves. I may eventually run this as a non-ironman, but to start for now my efforts are focused on just ironman nobeads%.

The ruling on the Shield of Arrav helper does make sense, and I'm completely fine with it. On top of it being seen as more legitimate, it DOES add that extra bit of effort you have to put forth towards getting a good run. Especially as you get into more involved/advanced categories. It adds more skill, helps keep your game up, and keeps you on your toes.

I think nobeads% should exist purely as an ironman category. It would make no sense to have that quest excluded on an account that can trade with other people and use the GE and splitting it up into ironman/non-ironman nobeads% categories would just be too much imo. There is no reason to have that many different categories especially when the community is currently so small. I think normal accounts should be required to do ALL the F2P quests for their run. I do, however, think the requirement for Shield of Arrav should remain consistent across the board. The reasons we are requiring that section be done during the live run are not ironman specific, so it should apply to any account type.

I'm glad you are going to be doing more runs! Speedrunning is great when you have competition, it helps motivate everyone involved to try harder and get a better time. You're welcome to add me in-game if you'd like. As I said, I have two accounts (Pcfl_Alt & Pcfl_Bone) but I mainly play on Pcfl_Alt at the moment.

Now one of the only remaining stumbling blocks is creating dozens of RuneScape accounts! :D

Oh, and one additional message for you, Chris:

Do you happen to have the route you used transcribed anywhere? It'd save me a ton of time jotting it down.

United States

That would be most excellent, thank you! I'll be checking the resources periodically for it.

EDIT: I'll have to check out those runs, I'm still pretty new to this community so please bear with me while I assimilate myself. It appears as if you guys may need some help defining the run rules for the various official categories, which I'd love to help hash out.

United States

Thank you very much! What you provided will help me and my friend out A TON.

But yes, with this ship beginning to set sail for great things we should get those ironed out right away. I know I'm extremely eager, but I really do believe that all these upcoming developments are going to get a decent bit of activity for this community. I will for sure be promoting it non-stop on my stream, both during runs and not during runs.

What do you think would be best for this? Should we make a thread specifically for it?

I also plan to do some speedruns on runescape. inspired by Joey (07ScapeSkiller) after watching one of his streams and him discussing runescape speedrunning, i did a f2p ironman speedrun which took me way longer than the 6 hour time posted on this website, and i made an account which i tried to level with the least hours played possible.

I am still very interested in doing more speedruns on OSRS and plan to do another f2p ironman speedrun, however there is some obstacles I am going to have trouble with, like logging into 2 accounts. I can log into 2 accounts but if I had recording software also running I would lag so much I couldn't play. I also plan on doing runs for the other categorys, the Total Level run seems really fun to me.

Nice to meet you all, and I hope we can inspire alot more people to try out runescape speedrunning!

Would it be allowed to have another player provide the missing shield part for Shield of Arrav in cases like arbee's?
