I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to other games specific differences between region versions, do many other games have to deal with the issue of difficulty/enemy placement differences and have still chosen not to separate?

Text speed I'd say is a non-issue because people worried about getting a record time will naturally be familiar enough with the game not to need to read anything.

Very good point about the Taiwanese copy and bootlegs vs JP law, that's really interesting.

England

Text is the only time loss in US version, not the 3 rooms with different enemy placements.

The ultimate goal anyway is not to take damage (Other than 1 bite before train birkin since it's faster to take the bite)

I thought there was an extra zombie on the main hall balcony? The one that's incredibly difficult to dodge and you have to pass by him at least twice unless the route has changed.

Not to mention the 4 extra in the route to the police station. The extra zombie in the room before the library has to be pushed out of the way, too. That's absolutely a time loss that's unavoidable, even if it's a tiny one.

I don't know every enemy difference but there's at least 5 rooms.

  • 2 extra zombies before the gun shop
  • 2 more after the bus
  • 1 more on the balcony
  • 1 extra dog/licker in the basement corridor
  • 1 extra blocking the hall before the library, you must physically push him out of the way as he stands up (long time ago he was one of the reasons people thought you needed the shotgun)

Those are just the ones I noticed while watching pekoron at lunch today.

Additionally, there was a long-held belief that non-zombie enemies in the Japanese version were more docile or slower to attack, was there ever any merit to that? I never looked into it as I never ran the JP version so it didn't matter.

Pre-RPD zombies - maybe 1 second loss before kendo. And that's being generous Balcony - dodge or shoot him with the handgun until he stumbles. Shooting would cost like 2 seconds.

Not sure what zombie you're talking about on the way to the library, Stars hall is the same and the room before the library they're eating a corpse like every other version.

Basement at most you could lose 2 seconds on the lickers, The dogs aren't much of a threat.

Text is your biggest enemy.

I'll grab shots when I get back from work. But there is a corpse-eating zombie that blocks your path there, you have to push him out of the way on the western version. Again it's only a second maybe 1.5 but even that quick list of things I noticed there watching 20 minutes of a run adds up to a few seconds. It could just be I saw incorrectly I was only watching casually :)

I'm not saying it's significant in a run thats over an hour long, but it is a difference that slows down an already disadvantaged version.

I knew I wasn't just seeing things. Definitely an extra body in the room. He poses zero threat and is faster to push than I thought. But yeah, he does exist! :P

edit:

There's also a zombie missing from the downstairs office with the safe.

Hi! I'm new, and can't seem to find any info on when to start my timer ? hope you guys can help! Thanks!

Thanks! I'm just starting out. But I am playing on console, capturing through usb-v (shit, but i can afford it) and using livesplit. Just wanted to know if I should start the timer when I press new game, or if it's something different like on reset of the console. 1:26:10 PB so like I said, just starting out ^^

I think the timer is technically supposed to start when you gain control of Leon/Claire, but for simplicity I always started mine when I confirmed my difficulty (to get the announcer to go BioHazard...TWOOO lol)

So that's a yes, a no or a maybe then? Or is this section of the site in a state of neglect?

@Disco_Fudge. You're better off joining the Official RE Speedrunning Discord and asking there. https://discord.gg/e8xzsq

I can't speak for other mods, but I don't look at SRC every day, so no, it's not in a state of neglect, you just happened to catch a time when no one looked. But Leviathan is right about discord being a better place for getting a quicker answer since more people are active on there more regularly.

But the answer is no, run submissions require video proof. For console runs, you can either capture it using some kind of capture card (elgato, for example) or point a camera at the TV (as long as we can see and hear everything).

Apologies for my snarky comment. I don't do well with patience lol, surely a trait indicative of a runner. Anyways, my lack of patience was due mostly to my last pr which was roughly 8 mins faster than the current, accepted 21st best runner for the console/disc category. Again, I wasn't completely aware, but figured a full video playthrough was required for serious consideration. Thanks again and apologies for any disrespectful undertones towards the mods and admins. I've held your position under genetic genealogy forums and I'm well aware of the struggle of running and maintaining a site.

Hello, I know it says runs can take 1 to 3 weeks to upload. But over the days I've seen new runs posted on this forum. My tun still shows pending and im just curious that it maybe due to the fact that there's so many being submitted with not enough manpower to validate the runs as fast? Or you guys are only uploading a few a day? I was just making sure that my run isn't in limbo lol

United Kingdom

Your run isn't in limbo. All the mods are not available all the time unfortunately, I check the forum every few days in between working full time and I'm busy at weekends. Your run will be watched, just have some patience :)

Thankyou :)
