just saw that znes is illegal now on emulator zone RIP to a classic emu
you cant even download it now this saddens me that was one of the classic emus
Emulators themselves can't really be illegal, can they? I'm not sure about that website, but zsnes has it's own website where you can download from. This took me 2 seconds to discover.
ZSNES isn't something folks should be using these days anyways.
Don't get me wrong, it was influential and important, but there are far more accurate and simpler to use options now.
If you want that nostalgia hit, sure, use it for fun, but other than that, there's really no reason.
I don't think you would want to use it anyway, there are other SNES emulator options that seem to be much better (and in terms of speedrunning, most of the games I checked explicitly ban ZNES).
Wow that's a first step for an emulator to be banned! Emulators aren't illegal anyway but the way its supposed to be is that playing roms on said emulators you're supposed to own a copy first. I use zsnes its one of my favorite snes emulators and works very well. Didn't know it was competition banned here for speedrunning though that's something I just found out about.
Didn't know it was competition banned here for speedrunning though that's something I just found out about.
There's actually quite a few emulators that aren't allowed in general for speedrunning, mostly because they aren't accurate enough.
We've had many topics about wich emulators were "valid" for runs, and wich ones weren't. While i can't find the biggest one (wich had a lot of comments from many users mentioning wich emulators communities were using and why), here's a decent one with a quick reference about wich emus are banned :
"Due to a DMCA notice from Nintendo Co Ltd, we have been forced to remove the downloads for ZSNES."
What the heck is Nintendo so concerned about anyway? First Emuparadise and now this emulator. They should know well by now that millions of people plays their games on Emulators. I'm worried they'll take over the world soon.
I'm sure Nintendo has no legal grounds to stand on, but it's not like some emu website is going to stand up to them. Also, they very well could have nuked all their content upon receiving the DMCA notice. A lot of rom share sites got rid of roms that Nintendo has no ownership over.
they could stand up and fight back on a legal basis because emulators themselves are not illegal. Also it wasn't emuparadise that was threatened with legal action it was the owner and because he owned another rom sharing site so the owner decided to take down all the roms down from his emuparadise site because he feared a lawsuit. The only thing that is still available for download on emuparadise for some reason are the CHD files for arcade games which are chunks of huge data files.

probably to prevent a general piracy lawsuit, if Nintendo has their address & names, it's reasonable to assume others have as well and taking precautions for that is good.
Mostly its Metroid and legend of Zelda a link to the past are the two main snes roms that got deleted from what I could see. There could be others but I have no trouble downloading any of them

Yeah... no. Nice idea but lawyers are expensive. Unless you literally have over $100k lying around that you're willing to spend on legal fees, good luck winning a lawsuit against a major corporation like Nintendo.
