Lag With Recording Using OBS
Delaware, USA

I have been trying to record my speedrun attempts with OBS, but there is already massive lag spikes when I finish the recording. I don't know if I set up OBS wrong or what, does anyone know why this is happening?

A lot could be wrong, it depends on your setup. However most of the time, it's that your PC can't handle it. Is your computer powerful enough to run what you're trying to record? Check your specs. + check if OBS uses up a lot of your CPU/GPU in task manager (depending on your setup). If it's causing problems try some of the following: -try running OBS in admin mode (this allows it to use stuff in windows to optimize it, which is something they've worked on a lot). -try lowering your output resolution/fps,1080p 60 FPS isn't really needed for recording, 720p 30FPS should work fine in most cases -It could also be a high bitrate. For that, there's a ton of tutorials online, but a high bitrate can cause issues if you don't have the internet to support it. -It can also help to set its priority higher, as that's a problem some people have. -Check if it's running on integrated graphics (sometimes its set like that by deafult)

However, if your specs are low enough, your computer might have issues with running OBS entirely, and you might want to consider other options.

Sizzyl, the first thing he should do is open up the statistics page in OBS to see what type of lag and framedrops/encoding issues he has. Afterwards you can troubleshoot more. Additionally, we need to know the PC specs and the OBS settings to help out properly.

We need more information to solve your problem First, what is your PC spec? Lag spikes usually happen because OBS lack resource OBS can run from CPU or GPU. It's better to run using GPU by using NVENC for Nvidia GPU I have a complete guide to answer your problem, should you use CPU or GPU to record: FAQ about Streaming and Recording PC

Quick Fix

  1. Update your Windows
  2. Check your PC. Is there any loose cable, expecially GPU and your PSU
  3. Run OBS as Administrator (This still works) : this link
  4. You are recording right? Not streaming? Use NVENC as the codec

I guess your PC might have a low configuration. You need to make some changes in the hardware like having proper thermal on CPU. Extend your RAM if it's 4GB of RAM then extend it with 4GB more.

Rest try the below fix

  • Add OBS to High performance (Open Windows settings > System > Display > Graphics >Click on Browse and choose the location of OBS > Once added you will find OBS in the list > From the list look for OBS and click on Options > Set to high performance)

  • While using quit all other apps and programs that are currently not in use. You can use task manager for this.

Hope this will help to fix If you are trying to record discord audio with OBS then better check the article for proper instructions. https://discordtips.com/record-discord-audio-with-obs/

first of all, the thread is probably kinda dead, OP never responded back and 2nd of all you cannot recommend someone upgrading their hardware when we do not even know the cause of the issue. OP could have a sick PC but really bad settings.

I do have the feeling that you just wanted to plug your website. Especially because the linked article has absolutely nothing to do with OPs problem.
