It does not have to be an N64 control, if you have any other control from another console such as XBOX360, PS4, WII you can connect it to the pc and play with those controls.

i only have nintendo switch joy cons...not xbox or playstation or wii

I once did a speedrun of SM64 playing with the keyboard but I tell you that it does not feel good at all, it is quite difficult to control it, especially to make the glitches but if you have good keyboard handling in speedrun of sm64, go ahead.

it is quite complicated. If you want for discord I will help you and I will try to explain how to do things correctly on the keyboard in SM64 because I already got used to doing speedruns with the keyboard in SM64.

I promise that getting an og controller and adapter is far cheaper than getting a console setup.

Speedrunning sm64 with a keyboard has to be a nightmare, I struggle so much when I played it first time with Keyboard, I can't imagine a 16 star run with keyboard

I actually played SM64 with my laptop's keyboard sometime around mid-2019 on this online game website called GamesHaHa, but a couple months later I got the actual game and played it on there. A long time later, I tried playing it again on laptop, and was surprised at how hard it was with keyboard, but I actually managed to get some 16 star tricks, like the MIPS clip, and even had small spouts of success with getting a BLJ at the 50 star door. Also, I'm sure a keyboard is easier than other controllers, say like, I don't know...

@JcubH06 Hello, I am practicing for an SM64 speedrun and I recommend that you buy a control (it can be Xbox, PS5 or another) to play in an emulator, it could be in mupen, bizhawk, or any other.
