Clarity for the career any% and gold% and 100% runs.

I've just started speedrunning this game after years of thinking about doing it and have immediately come across some bits of confusion that I can hopefully clear up for anybody new coming to the scene.

In the menus of MX Unleashed, the career section includes both racing and freestyle/freeride events. Despite this, the current rules for the career any% run do not require any completion of freestyle events and only ask the runner to finish all of the races on offer in the campaign menu, which bounce between nationals and supercross type tracks.

For gold% the same exact rules apply, with the addition of asking the player to get gold in every single race. I still have some confusion here and hope that the mods can come in to provide some clarity. The issue is that there isn't any clear declaration of what getting gold is in this game, and that to earn first place in tournaments does not require the player to earn first place in every race. In my current any% run (which is currently pending approval) I manage to get first place in every single tournament in the career mode, which is further indicated with a golden trophy at the end of every completion, but do not do so by getting first place in every race. Because of the point distribution, with a majority of my races being finished in first (but not all), I manage to get the golden trophy every time. This only instance that I can think of that includes gold on screen is where my confusion presents itself the most. In my attempt at any%, am I also able to submit my run for gold% despite not getting first in every race? The rules are not clear enough for me to know.

Furthermore, to get a %100 run finished, the player must complete all events in game, including the freeride events. Nobody has completed this run yet but I plan to do so soon. An important strategy I have been planning for is the ability to purchase your way out of having to do certain events in the freeride mode. By doing tricks in game, the player earns points that can be used in the main menu to purchase events that will show up as completed in the career mode. I am going to assume that my %100 run can be shortened by this strategy that is not addressed in the rules, and hope that it remains this way. The planning behind doing tricks and the correct purchases to mitigate time loss will add another layer to the run and make things more complex overall. Seeing that nobody else has said a word about the run, I hope that this statement is in common agreement with everyone else and I will continue to argue for its inclusion into the run if there is disagreement here. My best defense would be to point out that the in game percentage menu that indicates how far the player is to getting %100 is affected by these purchases, so while the player doesn't have to actually play through them, they still act in some way to count them as completed.

Thanks for the read.

I also wanted to add one more thing about the career mode % runs, since the only other submitted run doesn't really take this strategy into account. You can change the career mode settings from the defaulted number of 5 laps to 3 and it saves a shit ton of time. I cutoff over 3 hours of the previous world record (once my run gets approved) mostly because of this strat and suggest anybody else who is making the attempt to do the same.

Also here is a link to my run if anybody wants to watch before it is approved:

The thing is, these boards are... mostly inactive, hence why no one has really spoken out about these things.

On that note; The difference between Gold and Any is that, with Any you're not required to get a gold trophy in every category, regardless of how easy or hard it is to gold everything, just one takes out that requirement whereas the other leaves it in. They're ultimately redundant, hence why Gold isn't separated beyond a subcategory.

The freestyle/freerun events all have their own separate category because they play vastly different from the rest of the racing categories of supercross and nationals, and whether or not those specific modes(?) get their own categories will ultimately I guess be up to runner choice, because as it stands I feel it's a tad redundant when every level has it's own iL board.

Also, with 100% - I wouldn't mind the buying strat I guess, it does sound like it could open up for an interesting route. You get no arguments from me there.

So can my attempt for any% be submitted for gold% as well since by the end of the run I had gold trophys in every category?

God I would love it if we allowed for 3 lap races in career mode runs

The rules don't say that they aren't allowed and its what I did on my run of career any%.

"So can my attempt for any% be submitted for gold% as well since by the end of the run I had gold trophys in every category?"

Yeh, sure, why not?

"God I would love it if we allowed for 3 lap races in career mode runs"

I mean, it wasn't ever disallowed, truth be told it NEVER occurred to me that you could just... DO that for a speedrun, this was something I knew you could do, but the thought never crossed my mind.

I still think there should be a dedicated category for all the Outdoor vs Indoor races in career mode (I forget what the actual name for them is). Only thing is that you need have played the game a certain amount to have unlocked them all. Would help break the run up a bit so we don't have to do 6 hour+ runs when we want to race. Understandable if no one else thinks this is a good idea though. Just my thoughts.

Again, there are ILs for individual races, you don't have to do an approx. 6 hour run if you don't want to. I guess if you guys really want a nationals or supercross specific category, where you do all of a type of race, you can do one, throw it here in the forums and I'll add it as a category for you to submit to.

But as it stands, it feels pretty redundant when every level has its own category and collectively all the races together fall under the Career Any% run. But I'm open to being wrong if y'all really feel like we need that middle ground.

I think the freestyle levels are what make this speedrun unique and I like them being individual level runs so its short and easier to optimize. I have no opinions on the career mode stuff cause I don't like to do races anyway

Shrimp, you're thinking of Nationals (outdoors) and Supercross (indoors). The issue here is that not all of the tracks in game are included in the campaign, because I know of at least one nationals track that I didn't play in my most recent run through. So we'd have to decide if we're doing all national and Supercross tracks featured in the career mode (which would be easier to setup and verify per run) or all national and Supercross tracks in the entire game (which would require either a save file with everything unlocked or the input of the unlock everything cheat code beforehand).

edit: oh my god Im retarded didn't even read the rest of your post before replying lmao. But like I said, a simple entry of the unlockall cheat would solve the issue.

I think the only new run we really need right now is all freestyle maps completion which could easily be accomplished through the campaign menu. Whether or not that would include the point purchase ability I mentioned earlier, I don't know. Seeing that @SLPN is doing the most runs in that mode I'd say we leave that up to him. I only demand its availability for the %100 run when I inevitably do it.

Nevada, USA

We could just call it freestyle %100 with the rules being that you have to finish every event in every freestyle map, but the player can start in any order if they'd like. There could also be freestyle %100+ with every event unlocked from the start which would enable runners to plan a little more on which events they want to tackle first.

Also I meant the career %100 run in my second reply just now that includes all races and freestyle events my bad. Thats gonna be like a 10 hour ordeal lmfao.

Honestly the rules can be pretty loosey goosey. There's only like 4 of us here anyways, and I think for the most part we all know what runs we're most interested in haha. I'm only gonna focus on career any% and career %100 so for all I care you guys can throw any ideas forward for those freestyle runs. I really just want more people to join in if it's possible and the more clarity we can provide for everything the easier that will be. I used to make shitty meme videos for the Need For Speed Underground 2 subreddit and that got a lot of new people on board and I'd be more than willing to do the same for this game if it seems like something that will actually garner attention.

I have no objections to a freestyle mode 100%
