True ending: awakening%

I plan to start running this soon but noticed the categories are for finishing only the original first four days. I was planning on routing the entire True Ending run. Would it be possible to add it as a category?

Hey, I just started running this game, and I'd definitely be interested in running this category if you still plan on trying to route and run it. What did you have in mind for the requirements of the run?

This should be simple:

Goal: Get the true ending from a new custom game, in awakening mode. Rules (in terms of how to reach that goal):

  • You have to pick any one of the blue/red/both diskette options, as part of the custom settings
  • You have to recruit Barry and Cody in day 2
  • You have to keep them both alive in day 3
  • You have to pick both red and blue diskettes from the secret office rooms, in day 3 or 4
  • You have to do a perfect day 4, so all party members will survive and get to the moon
  • You have to put and activate both diskettes in the sleeper pods terminal

I'd be more than happy to add this as a category to the leaderboards, though I would like someone to perform a run of it so I can see the category's value prior to adding it.

I was planning to do something like that soon. Although I was also planning to do a "Perfect true ending" run, which means also doing perfect days 1/2/3 (because I think just doing the true ending tasks won't change the game very much by themselves).

On the topic of new runs, I was wondering if there could be something like a 100% run, where you go through New Game and then go through Awakening Mode. I feel like this should stay more true to a real play-through of the game and have it start through the menu options of New Game and The Awakening rather than custom mode without disks, and then custom mode with one of the disks as I feel that simplifies the run too much.

Too complicated, too random, and too repetitive.

  • Once you unlock custom game mode after getting the true ending once, you can't revert it - the custom mode will always be there. You will have to delete your save data for every run.

  • Randomness - before unlocking a custom game, you have zero control on what scenarios you will have. Some are fast, like what I used in Any%, the others are much more slow. The difference between scenarios can be minutes.

  • In terms of speedrunning, awakening mode is like 95% similar to a new game. As I said above, the extra goals you need are getting the two diskettes, and keeping everyone alive, while in a new game you also must pick one of the diskettes. The major difference can be seen in a casual playthrough, where you get new scenarios, and dialogues are slightly different. But when you speedrun, you skip everything and don't care.

  • For the same reason, I also don't see a reason to start a custom game that will emulate a new game, and then start a custom game that will emulate the awakening mode - you will just do almost the same thing, twice.

The way I'm thinking of implementing it at least the first half of the run would be different because of a few things:

  • You would have to pick up Barry or Cody during the first run to get one of the disks which changes the routing in some ways that I'm not sure yet because I haven't tried to implement it yet

-Then you have to kill off whoever you save after you get their disk with them

This changes Day 2 and 3 planning because you need to plan to do well enough for one extra person to stay alive and then do just well enough that one person dies, but you're still fine in the end

Other than that, Day 1, 4 and Moon remain unchanged, but it's still about 20% (when including both new game and awakening) of the run that needs rerouted, it could always be a category extension, like something different but not different enough for its own category
