Legacy SS rule

French Southern Territories

My run was SS but with pretty old strats. I have a okay-ish exe, I am not Fnzzy-level or XeiZ-level or BiiWix-level but I think I am part of the community even if I am not THAT good and Legacy is the only category that I know and that I like.

I have kind of an overview of people that have something to do with it dont worry pack, i know you actively play it. :p

The problem with rules is that portal runs can be verified with both videos and demos. Also, some runners doesn't record their demos (which is my problem, I never record demos for Portal). And maybe we should remove all times without demos or videos (yes even mine) to get rules that are actually applied (but that's another problem :/ )

Germany

So I like PJC's input. I suggested that we remove the SS rule and add a column where you can specify if your run is RTA or SS. Legacy as a category is already too arbitrary to limit it even more (by leaving the SS rule in) but you can still set the challenge for yourself and show it off in the leaderboards.

I think this would be a good compromise for people who want to play SS and doesn't limit the people who want to do RTA.

EDIT: Pack it doesn't matter if you are a god-tier level gamer or a casual player. If you play the category you are an active runner and have a saying. Also it's really easy to record demos :p just get Maxxuss speedrun plugin and type speedrun_start. You have to do nothing, it's so easy!

Teslaë and BiiWiX like this

This should be another discussion entirely, right now screenshots of splits are okay but that wouldnt proof anything about following the actual rules of a category with such heavy rules. But again dont start discussing that here please or this will get nowhere.

French Southern Territories

Yes, Fnzzy, that might be the best compromise :/

Germany

I know most people have probably left this discussion but it would be nice if you people could say if you agree with this compromise or not.

French Southern Territories

I agree with this compromise

Germany

just for documentation: biiwix also agrees with this compromise.

France

I agree too.

Also, I always thought Legacy was listed as a miscancellous category due to its lack of clear rules. Should Legacy be switched to regular categories or stay as misc ?

France

I also agree with this even if you knew already about it

Germany

Seems like many people agree with the compromise. I removed the SS rule and added the column. Have fun!

PackSciences: No real idea what would make a category misc or not to be honest. My reasoning for having it stay misc is that the current main categories have a lot of submissions compared to legacy but thats my reasoning, i might be alone with that and thats fine so whatever people think is right.

Germany

I think the categories that were purely created as a joke should stay misc, like jumpless, 0grav and no +forward. I say we move it to the normal categories if many people agree with this.

United States

I see 0 reason that there should be a SS rule in legacy, I don't see why any Portal Category should have a SS only rule, But I do think it's a good idea to just have people specify RTA or SS as the compromise. Let's people do what they want and doesn't limit people who want to do RTA.

French Southern Territories

It's a more complex problem. First, XeiZ is asking only people who runs the Legacy because they are mostly aware of everything that happens. Secondly, this rule refers to a few things that happened in the past. For those who don't know, I'll say what I remember : Legacy comes from the "Old No OOB" rules and then the category became really blur. I can't tell more because I am not sure of who did what exactly and telling names will not help this thing but for newbies who read this, it's more complex than "since no one follows the rule (and little want the rule)".

Audio requirements

Starting today, runs that require video proof (top 25) and runs beyond that where video is the only form of proof, now require audio, as recording audio for only the game is now a native OBS feature.
