no, because for that smb3 tas, all you have to do is a frame perfect input and you basically wait until the tas cues you to do the input. for 8-1 fpg, you have no time to wait, so if you were to play an smb1 tas with rta 8-1 fpg it wouldn't help. plus there are alot of frame perfect inputs done in a short span of time so it won't aid someone in doing 8-1 fpg.

The early hammer manipulation really isn't related to 8-1 FPG.

To the spirit of your question - I feel like you're asking if there was some external way to give yourself an audio or video cue as to when the level would start would THAT be legal... Like having your splits start a customized countdown to the start of 8-1... Where it would give you a flash of light or an audio tone exactly two frames before the level started.

I would think that wouldn't be illegal? But I could see a good argument either way. From a practical standpoint though... There's at most like 5 people (probably less) that could ever consider using 8-1 fpg in a run to beat the current wr... Or as an alternative to a current trick used in the wr (why?) and I would think those 5 people would rather just do it without an external cue, since it would take away some of the "glory" from an all-natural run

Or maybe it would be flat out illegal.

If that is your question it's an interesting one though. On a related note, when I was doing blindfolded any% mapping, I was using a metronome, which kinda falls under the same type of assistance. I never ended up doing a full run, just a bunch of IL - but if I HAD done a completed run using a metronome, that one other guy that's done a blindfolded run would still have outdone me (by some metrics) even though my time would probably be faster because he did it without any type of outside assistance
