When the game does come out, you should probably work out a time where recordings are required, like sms. but you probably should make recordings mandatory until you can figure out a good time, because a lot of people wont be able to record.
What i think is that rather than a time, it could be based on placement. So a vid would be required for top 10 or top 20, etc
Unless individual level runs become popular I'm sure full-game runs will require complete video recordings. Barely anyone will care if 113th place doesn't have a video; EVERYONE is going to care if 1st place doesn't.
But the difference between 1st and 10th could be seconds apart, we don’t know yet, so anyone could add a fake time in 11th just to get bragging rights.
Top X need a video: if someone in the top X removes their run from the leaderboard, that brings a run into the top X, even if it was accepted without video. Percentage cutoff is even worse: a run can become invalid just from people submitting runs.
A time-based cutoff is the only one where runs can’t become invalid (unless the threshold itself increases, which is why runs shouldn’t be accepted without video at all until a good time is decided).
A setting that allows autoapprove at certain thresholds is something I want to implement sometime.
