@Backspaced Nothing can stop them, but having a silent week from time to time is still something

Wouldnt it help reducing bot spam?

@Oxknifer You at least help as much as possible (to which I give you credit for, that's a lot more than most people who put those restrictions on do) but it still does not change the base issue at hand, namely, that neither a timer onscreen or internal capture should be mandatory, and I know that many people share that opinion.

One thing that I would love to be able to do would be to custom sort runs on my profile. The chronological sort is fine, but obviously there are some runs I've done that I'm prouder of than others and would like to showcase at the top. That way, when people visit my profile, they could see the games I care about the most, first. This would especially help people who run large numbers of games avoid meme games drowning out runs they put lots of effort into getting. For those who don't care to arrange their runs in this way, the default could still remain as chronological order.

I know this is an old thread, and I've posted my own thread on this before, but.. Genres are a COMPLETE mess.

You're allowed to put add multiple genres to one game. Yet, there's 6 "run-and-gun" genre"s", and 6 "shoot 'em up" genre"s"

An example being the list of "2D" games. It would be as simple as making "2D" the only genre related to the concept of "2D", instead of having more specifications along with "2D". Instead of having: "2-D 2D 2D action 2D Fighter 2D Platform 2D Platformer 2D side scrolling platform game 2D sidescrolling platformer 2D sidescrolling run-and-gun platformer 2D-Fighter"

You could tag a game as "2D", as well as "Platformer" and also "run-and-gun" - that would exterminate most of the clutter.

I think it's great that a person can discover new games that are similar to what they already like, and speedrun them and all that. Every game is unique so I also completely understand adding new genres and all.

But as a user looking for a genre or a user who just submitted a game and adding genres to their specific game, there's so many genres that are unnecessarily listed, or rather are spelled slightly different, it's rather a chore.

I don't have any authority or notoriety, so I politely request anyone to consider cleaning up the genres, and/or perhaps making it so while adding genres to a game, suggestions pop up in a window, like an auto-complete for convenience, or anything.

@Bogi2323 If they can't write for a week it's a week of silence, there wouldn't be a way to bypass it then

When you click on the discord link on a profile it shows a alert, maybe add to that alert a text that says that you should join the SRC discord because some users allowed it that everyone thats in the same server as you can DM you without sending a friend request (which makes contacting someone on discord easier) Or maybe add this in the profile settings where you add your Discord link?

I dunno how anyone feels about this, but only having the last 10 notifications kinda screws me over sometimes. I suppose I use it for a slightly different purpose than normal, but it'd be nice if the notification number disappeared, but the menu still featured the scroll bar to scroll back through all (or at least more than 10) of the recent notifications.

@ZDungeon Completely agree. Either put in a scroll bar, or maybe have a "See all notifications" button.

I think it would be cool if there were subsections of the forum dedicated to general speedrunning discussion in specific languages or for people from specific countries, or being able to filter the latest runs by country so it would be easier to connect and keep up with your local speedrunning community and maybe organize national marathons.

Change the video icon for "video available" on the leaderboards to the icon of Twitch/YouTube/Niconico etc. so one can easily watch a run with the player they want.

@Skyreon While were at it, maybe add a picture proof icon?

I would love if I could serch up a game with the pal name and it still come up rather than nothing showing just to find out it's under the ntsc name I knew nothing about like Eledees as I looked up the game a while ago and never even realised it was on the site the American name is Elebits. There are loads of games like this and it would be a nice option to have rather than going through a hassle trying to find the "correct name" :)

I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to sort game moderators in the mod list by level (super, regular, verifier) and then alphabetically, instead of just alphabetically. When you have games with lots of moderators (like with https://www.speedrun.com/rac2 ) it gets a little confusing and hard to see who's at what level (granted part of that is probably just that my eyes aren't great with colours).

I agree with a game like that it is really confusing because there is so much to look at.

Already has been suggested that you could set a "prefered" moderator to contact, I feel like if the above thing is implemented the prefered mods should show up first, regardless of super/regular mod

The search bar is a great function. Two suggestions for searching:

  • Searching forum posts (on general forum and within a user's profile). This would be elsewhere on the page, not on the speedrun.com navbar.
  • Game search results being sorted by active players The current sorting is odd. I type in "Super Mar" and expect Super Mario 64 to come up first, but its the 10th entry. Super Mario Odyssey isn't even listed. I type in "Ov" expected Getting Over It or Overwatch to appear, but neither are in the top results. I type in "Kirby" hoping to find Kirby: Star Allies, but its not listed.

Update March 2020: Thank you for enhancing search functionality to order games by active players!

The ability to class the levels of the IL list in groups/categories.

In https://www.speedrun.com/stk/individual_levels; we have three type of ILs : GPs, time-trials races and egg hunts. It would work better (less rules duplication, and no need to have 20 times the same variables to only apply them where they makes sense) if we could set rules and variables which applies to all the levels of a specific type.

I agree with the above. This relates to @HowDenKing saying we should be able to make custom leaderboards aside from just Full Game and IL (see previous page of posts). @Alayan, with custom leaderboard pages you could have: Full-game Leaderboard GP Leaderboard Time-Trial Leaderboard Egg Hunt Leaderboard

Right now, I'm trying to decide how to add individual worlds into this leaderboard: https://www.speedrun.com/scbros Instead of making them ILs or Misc. categories for full-game, I'd instead want to create a custom Individual Worlds Leaderboard.

Custom leaderboards might also be a good way to consolidate category extensions into the original game page. Just create a Category Extensions Leaderboard.

Edit November 2019: Thank you for the addition of subgames! This helps!
