Are the Time Trial improvements running low? Here’s a new challenge: 100%. Penguin board, all 3 characters, and all 29 Tricks in Training turned from white to red.

Here’s the route: Start the time when you confirm Erasing All Data. Begin by going to Training. Do all 24 Tricks (utilizing the glitch) to unlock the Penguin Board within the first couple minutes. Use it to plow through Match Race. Now use the Gold Boarder to do one Time Attack of Deadly Fall and then clear each Trick Attack 3 times. There is a method to easily score enough points: Do a spin and a trick shortly after to snap you back. A few of those, and you can rush to the end. After that, 3 Contests. You will not need to do any tricks here, as Crystal Lake is enough to score the 10,000 points. You do still need to complete all 5 though. After that, do the five remaining Panda Tricks and stop the time when Quitting back to the main menu.

The problem with this category is that Wii U would be the most competitive version given how much slower the NTSC version is and PAL being even slower than that.

If that's the case, there can be separate categories for different versions. No problem- plenty of other speed games do it.

Scotland

Theoretically yes, but it's a small player base and and top players are split between playing PAL and NTSC. If there was demand for a category like this we'd put it on the board. You could start by doing a run?

Yeah no we tried that. Sonata ran 100% while repeating courses on Wii U and I ran 100% with questionable timing on n64. It’s not all that fun to run and the extra tricks add no value to the run but if u wanna try a run I think the records were 55ish min n64 and 51ish min Wii U. I don’t plan to speedrun this game anymore but could possibly consider running rta if I liked the category rules. Basically the run is: Unlock penguin (1m30s) Be very good with Dion Unlock Ice dude Unlock gold dude Timeout contest x3 with 3 perfect CL contest runs under 30s each (50k off first mogul should do) Speedrun trick attack with gold/penguin with minimal tricking. Old way I used to time it should have watched the credits bc the panda is not unlocked until the record is saved. I’m wondering if it’s faster to run DF in time attack than watch the credits. Idk. If nothing I say makes sense plz feel free to demand I make a video articulating my thoughts.

Well i will give you my answer proprely about how i saw the thing when i runned the category :

  • So basically, the idea was to make an RTA category for players which wasn't eager to do ILs run. It can be understandable by the thing that the best of them which are on the leaderboard took a bunch of hours to only save few centiseconds to improve the score on each courses.
  • This idea was also supported by the fact that no RTA category are included on the 1080° Snowboarding speedrun page. So its was decided to put something on the board. TheLuge opened the category and posted his time on the board.
  • i followed the thing alongside retrixfox. But the problems started about how we should run this category, in the meaning of putting some clear rules (for example, are you obliged to complete things which didn't trigger or unlock anything (such as doing the 6 extra tricks on training?)).
  • The second problem was the lack of activity on the category. We were only 3 runners, and technically 2 actives on the year which the 100% was included, and until the end, no one tried to do a run about it.
  • The third one is about the software. In RTA view, WIIUVC is the best console to play for a 100% for 3 reasons : 1/ the lack of lagging ; 2/ Short loadings between map ; 3/ less input lag. We can easily estimate than the difference between NTSC N64 and NTSC WIIU is around 3min (probably more), so i let you imagine the problem for PAL versions...
  • Finally, i even think than this category is more complicated to do for a beginner than ILs. It needs an overall good knowledge for the game and how you should do the routing.

If i should give you an advice is to try running this category on your side, even if the game can be finished in less than 50 minutes (even without being a top player), i would recommend you to do ILs. Its could be less enjoyable or kinda hard at a certain level, but it is much easier to do than a hundo.

Here's my 100% run. I would really like to see someone beat it. I thought it would be good if the ILs are getting too optimized. Even has variety.

I will send you my old WR and the TAS i made for the category in few days, you will get a better opinion for the situation :) (good run btw).

Antarctica

Here is the TAS :

I will give you few explanation, but don't hesitate to ask anything about the run.

1/ Yes, the video is spliced on many part (its a TAS so no prob i guess), i tried to make RTA the most optimistic possible.

2/ The TAS is RTA optimal only, the saves can be made on IGT between 12/17 seconds (Match race+ expert iceman). I have tried to make a good run, but the IGT are still pretty decent.

3/ The reason why IGT isn't optimized is about the difficulty to play Dion and the match race, its not impossible to be close to the actual ILs TAS, but it will take too many times and patience which i haven't with dion (the only thing which is good with him (in his statistic) is the speed, which is the best on the game).

4/ About the routing, i let people decide if they want to considerate the last cutscene to be on the run or not. If you take it, its 1min55 slower than stopping time after reaching the last line (officially, we considered that reaching the last red line on course was also possible to clear the run, instead of finishing contest).

5/ Here is the precise routing and the strat to know :

Contest : Basically you need to finish 3 times above the 1st place reached by the CPU with 50k points. The idea is that, even if you have a time out on crystal lake, the game still register your time. So it's much better to try reaching 50k points on CL by doing trick combos, you can see on the TAS than a OOB which is close to the beginning of the course can give you a big airtime and the way to do a 9-combo trick, giving you 50k point bonus and the main one you made.

Training : the best to clear training w/o problems is to do the trick menu after 180 or 360, because you have to get a big airtime on each trick you have to do after.

Match race : 1/ Dion+PBoard are the fastest combination of the game alongside Gold Ice man, 121km/h but its really hard to do an optimized run with him, so i would advice you (or others :) ) to take Rob, which is a little slower than him but much easier to take.

2/ There is a way to do a cutscene skip on the end of the match race, by reseting the console. This will NOT register your time but the game will consider that you unlocked hard or expert mode, depending where you are. Its almost 2 minute save for each reseting.

Trick : except on air make, you know the thing, if you past the checkpoint fast enough, you can beat the best time w/o making tricks.

Here is for the explanation. I hope you will enjoy the run even if we aren't on the same view.

PS : About the 6 extra trick, you can consider about 30 seconds more after the last menu.

Scotland

the first thing that needs to happen is an agreed upon ruleset for the run. You also need to clearly establish when the timer begins and stops, that was something that never happened in the past.

Start time: if we follow other games it’s gaining control of the player character, so the frame when the announcer says GO! End time: when final thing unlocks (for panda this means entering initials and hitting EnD). If the final unlocked thing is the golden boarder it would be crossing the finish line in deadly fall in the final match race (needs verification) If it’s the penguin for whatever reason it would be the chime indicating completion of the final trick. I guess if Sonata is running on Wii U I won’t bother. I only have NTSC-U N64 and would be at a heavy disadvantage.

Holy hecc sonata you made the fast contest happen that’s amazing!

Now that that’s done, can someone beat my N64 PB? Should be a no brainer for the pros.

If we have a proper rule set defined, sure. I’m planning to run every day I can this month (except for the gec concert)
