is LiveSplit or equivalent mandatory to get official WR?

Hello to everyone ! As i'm new around here i wanted to know something before starting some WR attempts, and i guess this post's title is quite a clue :

Every WR video i watched had some speedrunner layout in it, after some short searches i've found out that most people use LiveSplit to get it but what i'd really want to know is do i have to use such layouts while recording to get an official WR?

No it is not necessary you just need proof of your speedrun and anyone can count the videos or streams time.

allright, thanks for the fast reply : )

It mostly depends on the game, and the rules made for it by the community. Check the leaderboard for the game you're interested in, you should find a "View rules" button at the top right. Some runs use in game time, while others require a separate timer. If not mentioned in the rules, it's usualy the latter, if unsure try to contact the community for that game via the forum or discord. You could time your run after capturing it, but it may be easier to time while running. In the end you're going to need a precise measurement of your run one way or another, else how would you know if it's wr or not?

This is true. There are categories and subcategories for speedrunning also in game time and RT called real time just to mention that as well. I don't see why it would matter to use live split for your WR attempt so as long as you can get the complete time of your run. If you have a WR in a new game I doubt it would get disqualified just because you didn't use livesplit and to answer your question there are plenty of runs on the site where the runner doesn't use livesplit. Hope this helps, its a very useful tool though and I use it.

Simply put, if the leaderboard requires a timer (a specific one at that) in your video, then the rules need to be changed.

to be precise i don't have yet a WR, i think i can have on one Dos game which only have 1 moderator (which also holds the only WR for this particular game) that's why i want to be sure to respect the rules, anyway if you think it's safier and easier to validate time by using LiveSplit i'll do. i also have another question in mind, do i have to get english version of the game or can i stick to my own language's one?

Rules may say if the run goes by in game time or real time, and I've seen some requiring a timer, but not a specific one. I don't know if they are supposed to do so or not, for real time you will still have to time it one way or another though. Not sure if you can go by the video length itself, it may not be accurate due to compression or other factors.

As long as you have video evidence, the mod can frame count the run. No timer needed. If they don't know how, or don't want to, get a new mod.

allright, thanks everyone for your answers, anyway i have much training in sight, i see how to improve the aimed WR, but atm i lack dexterity for it, it'll take me at least a month of training before hoping to reach my goal -_- (and i'm pretty sure that if i get it, the actual holder will be able to beat it with the few improvements i'll can bring, but hey that's what is cool about speedrunning community ;) )
