call for help and offer of help

so me and a good friend of mine have started practicing this game for about a year now between other things and we were wondering if anyone has an idea on how to find out what the logic behind moracs behaviour is. We also found a ton of things that I would like some clarity on wether they are considered glitches or not and if not share them to help people make good runs of this game. Also to give the mods a bigger headache we do run the game on hard with new game+ with items enabled and doing all bonus levels... but I guess that doesn't matter as long as we don't have a good run yet. Also we will prob share our checklist of strategies we use in guides as soon as we made it and recorded a run. side note (and 4th edit) unfair mode is not in the game... it's technically still called hard mode.

Hello and welcome to the Forums! Sorry for replying so late.

No, we're currently not aware of any behavior for the Morac fight. I remember that IcyWorld got a two-cycle the other day. Go check out his YouTube and you may find it there.

When you submitted your run, I can check out that you meant and we will then decide, if it's going to be allowed. Currently, the rules for all the run state:

"Beat the game as fast as possible. No restriction on glitches, skips, and so on. CHEATS and HACKS are prohibited!"

Which doesn't make it a glitchless category of some sort, so using these things you call glitches, is allowed, as long as you don't manipulate the game's code and/or use external programs.

What do you mean by "unfair mode is not in the game..."? You mean that the game's difficulty is supposed be called "Hard"?

well it's called hard in game by now

So after some frustration on trying to optimize the morack fight on hard we tried contacting the devs and got the following reply:

Hi Keycraftsman,

Thanks for contacting us! While we can't go into very specific mechanic details, Morak does indeed give a lot of people trouble which is why our game designer was happy to give you a few tips on how to best play for your speedrun.

However, please note that development on Gauntlet was a long time ago and we only had time for a quick memory refresher while going through the code so there is a chance that some of the information may not be 100% accurate. Morak wants to travel a certain distance for each portal he opens. The target location for the portal openings are random, so hypothetically he can backtrack and open two in very close proximity. He might also get blocked by the level geometry.

Morak spends a certain amount of time in his invulnerable form. This timing can be slightly modified if he is in the midst of performing an ability when that time is up. Once in his vulnerable human form he will revert back to demonic form when he has been dealt a certain amount of damage. It will take approximately ten optimal attacks to kill him. Beating Morak in a speedrun is going to be difficult so we wish you the best of luck!

Kind Regards,

Lucy

So for anyone struggling this should help, also we have been theorizing about what causes morack to revert to his demon form the damage that is done to the clones seems to be included in the damage dealt overall to the boss. this matters when using high damage aoe clear abbility since this will proc more overkill damage on the total counter.

The holy grail of a morak fight for all difficulties is definitely landing a 3 sword hit on him on phase 1 with your illusions hitting him too. He's locked into his vulnerable form until the last sword hit has completed AFAIK. I don't know if you can clear all the enemies and morak clones and then wait for sword hits after a while to just simply lay your illusions on him without a massive RNG factoring in though (sword will target illusions btw), I haven't experimented with it yet but it's an idea. If anyone is still playing this game give it a shot!

If this is all blabbering nonsense check my video here (Skip ahead):

just bought this game on steam, i completed it couple of times on ps4 and i would like to speedrun it on hard co-op. maybe i would try something like playing online with random people xD but its usually hard to complete. I prefer Hard diffuculty and i play mage edit: Welp probbly impossible to complete w/ random ppl cuz there isnt any around me -_-

Yeah the online scene is a bit dead sadly. At best you'll find people for endless. You do really want someone you can rely on during co-op speedrunning though, randoms will not cut it. I'm thrilled you are excited in the game though, maybe you can try running solo hard or pitching it to a friend? Thats how Sash'el got me into this.
