What game is worst game to speedrun in your opinion?

  1. Displeasing to Speedrunners
  2. Displeasing to Viewers
  3. Perhaps has some deep technical issues or bugs that really destroy the experience

Thoughts?

Dark Wizard, no doubt. It's a Genesis game from 1993. It displeases me so.

@Goliath Hahah nice one. Well what made me want to make this thread was because there was a bizarre post with the same title two weeks ago that seemed to have nothing to do with a "worst game to speedrun". Actually curious to see what people might say.

Bram Stoker's Dracula (GEN)

Space is key.

@Makarazium Can you even speedrun those types of games? WoW and the FF mmo have a story line but do those other ones even have story to beat?

Valhalla

You can speedrun just about anything, including mmorpgs

Québec

@theripper999 People speedrun "opening a stranger chest" in minecraft hypixel wars. people will find a way to speedrun anything

United States

Lol well I found a game that I think would fit...but it is so offensive I will not even post it because I might get banned! I do not even want to play it at all...

Roxburgh, Scotland

realms of the haunting

@TicTacBean Fortnite I have no idea, never played it. but it does not look bad. And what do memes have anything to do with speedrunning it? Any other reasons for a speedrun of it poor? I do think unskippable cutscenes are bad, however SMS is quite good though so I think there are worse games to speedrun out there for sure.

@MylesMcCrone Realms of the Haunting is not engaging to watch by any means ahah. I just watched 5 minutes and have no idea what's going on and the guy is just running and clicking stuff. You can skip cutscenes which seems great in there since apparently there are tons of cutscenes in normal gameplay. Is there anything particular about running it that is bad besides well it looking really boring?

Pays de la Loire, France

Clue, just pick any suspect and if you're lucky you finish the game in 1 second

@OuaisMaisNan Yea that sounds pretty bland to watch and to play with a game made so limited. Nice answer!

Canada

Any visual novel games, such as the Phoenix Wright games. It's merely a matter of knowing all the answers by heart and optimal input, but doesn't translate to anything spectacular on-screen.

I'd say most RPG games are very bad for speedrunning due to the element of randomness and, in a lot of cases, long drawn out talking sequences and cutscenes. Not to mention most of these games go on for hours.

I respect people like Cordellium who dedicate an entire waking day of their life to 1 single run. But I don't really watch him due to how boring it can be.

@MasterLeoBlue While I do agree that most RPGs in their vanilla form have elements that slow the pace of a run, randomizers usually do a great job in cutting off those parts, and can lead to exciting runs, especially in terms of races.

The prime example that comes to mind is Final Fantasy 4's Free Enterprise randomizer. Cuts the BS thoughout the game and goes straight to the action.

@Marth.SR Yes visual novels for the most part seem very bland speedruns. When they are mashing as fast as possible through a medium of entertainment that is solely based on story then you remove the main point of enjoyment. There are some exceptions where there are heavy rpg elements in them but those are few and far between. Most visual novels seem to be banal fan service with no actual gameplay. A couple exceptions I can think of are the Neptunia series ( more on the rpg side), the AR Tonelico series, Kamidori Alchemy Meister, and Amayui Castle Meister that I had fun with. Though the last two have r-18 content, but have a good battle system, and I am not aware of any speedruns for those.

@MasterLeoBlue I actually like watching rpg speedruns, but I do indeed skip past the parts that are "stale" like the beginning, the grinding if any, and unskippable plot so I do understand your point.

@Marth.SR Final Fantasy 4's Free Enterprise randomize main site seems to be down ATM so I cannot check it at the source. Does it randomize the characters and remove the plot or something? That sounds cool. Something like that for FF10/6 and CT would be great.

platformers for me there's only a few I get on with really. Also about the rpg stuff I think there really cool runs :3 I really like them and have been considering doing one myself randomness can be a bummer but u know ^_^
