We need milliseconds

I think the leaderboards need to introduce smaller increments of time to list the Tetris(NES) Runs in all categories.

Currently All tetris categories only count times to the full second. And in categories like the 300k category, this leads to many people being listed as having the same time as eachother. While in reality one of them is over half a second faster than the other.

This lead to Pixelandy Not getting listed as having the world record in the 300k Category after getting a Low 1:40. Because Joseph already had a high 1:40.

Maybe the best solution is to introduce only 1 extra digit instead of all 3 for milliseconds. but regardless, somethig needs to be done. Because I don't want to next person who beats my 300k WR time by 0.7 seconds to not get the recognition they deserve.

i realise the millisecond debate has been brought up multiple times before. And i would argue the reason for this is because its an issue that really needs to be solved. it has happened more than once that the top 2 times are tied to the second and who the true record holder is is not listed.

After reading the posts about this issue earlier. The points against adding milliseconds has mostly been about there not being that much of a need for it. And that it would require work to go through all times and retime them. But i dont think the the either argument is particularly strong. You could choose to only go through the top 10-20 times and that work would not take too long

To make the task easier I would suggest as a default move to basically only count in multiples of 100ms, unless the player can provide a more exact time. It would be easy to estimate for top 20 times, and if two times are still tied despite this then that can be dealt with seperately.

Yeaah now there is a 3-way the for 2nd place in the 300k category. This is really needed

It's 2021, we have software that makes this a fairly easy task(it's just a lot of submissions to go through x.x).

Retiming every run would be a lot of time/work, but I would like to see at least the top X runs in categories retimed to include milliseconds.

My suggestion: Use Avidemux to retime top runs & have a cutoff time for retiming (e.g. sub-5:03 in SMB1)

I think doing it for the top 10 times would be the simplest and best course of action right now. That's not too much work either

The main reason why we don't have milliseconds for the leaderboard times is mostly due to the fact that two of our moderators are inactive (AFAIK) and it's mainly just death_taxes_64 and myself verifying runs at this point in time, so even doing milliseconds for the top 10 times of every leaderboard (A total of 74 runs) would be a lot of work. Furthermore, if we do that, I would want every run submitted afterword to be in milliseconds, so that would also be a lot more work for us.

In addition to this (and yes, I know you can use some websites to download Youtube/Twich videos from the Internet), retiming usually requires us to have a hard copy of the submission video in order to be able to do the retiming (at least the way that I do it), and getting that would be a big chore.

While I understand all of the points brought up in this thread, I don't think that it is feasible to add millisecond times for runs right now. I'd be more inclined to allow them if we had more active moderators, but we just don't have that at this point in time.

The other moderators are free to correct anything that I have written here if they disagree or have a different opinion on this.

Извините, но что вам мешает подать заявку на удаление неактивных модераторов и добавлением новых в замену старым?

Sorry, but what's stopping you from submitting a request to remove inactive moderators and add new ones to replace the old ones? (Google Translate)

Yeah adding new moderators is a good choice. Also I would be willing to help retime some of the top runs. I have time and the knowledge. I also don't think we need to add milliseconds to each and every category. Mostly the main 3

NESCardinality is still an active Super Moderator, so you'll have to direct any requests his way.
