Hey everyone. I am in the process of setting up LiveSplit to time my runs and I'm not sure of the best way to start and stop the timer. Do people generally use a hotkey to set the time for each milestone in the run, or is there a way to have this done automatically?
Thanks, and happy speedrunning!
There's a remote control thing for livesplit on ur phone. U won't be able to see ur splits but u can still use them. Or, you could play with a minimised window. But it's probably gonna work out better with two monitors.
I assume, you refer to an "AutoSplitter" ...sadly there ain't such for SM64, but for other games there's.
To answer your question: Yes, SpeedRunners in this community use hotkeys.
I personally have a footpedal that I use for splits, so I never have to take my hands off the controller. Before I got that I used hotkeys on my keyboard.
I use hotkeys on my keyboard. Insert to start time, Home to reset, Del go back a split and end to skip a split. Thats what i use since those key rarely, if ever, get used
Thanks for the responses guys! I ended up mapping the hotkeys directly to the controller input. I'm using a Wii U Pro controller and mapped Right trigger to start/advance split and Select to reset the timer.
@Poke711 i got nearly the same inputs: as my notebook-keyoard is closer together as usual so the 4 "home, end, up and down" aint arranged like the arrow keys, but all next to each other in a horizontal line...so they're above the NumPad. i got home for start/split, end for stop, up/down for skip/unskip and the slash "/" for pausing livesplit :)
