Is Virtua Fighter Remix allowed?

Hey, I was planning on doing a run of this game, and I just wondering if Remix is allowed on this category?

Yes. Remix is seen as the same game functionally.

If there is a considerable difference in gameplay found, we may create a seperate category for it, but IIRC the only differences the game contains are visual and not to the extent which affect lag or performance in anyway.

I was wondering about this, too, @Tenka. I just submitted my run playing VF REMIX. Thank you so much for the clarification! 😺

Also, I was wondering about that deleted user. May I ask/request that their run could be deleted since they are no longer active? I don't think it's fair to other current players who submit runs and are still actively speedrunning and involved in this community.

@B0SSCAT I looked into your run today and the emulation is pretty inaccurate. Some of the fighters flew off the ring with one hit.. we cannot accept runs which clearly have some broken physics that can be exploited one way or another. Tbh not sure if some good emulator for the arcade version exists right now (MAME is broken iirc). So it would probably be better to try another version in this case.

And about Janet's run: I don't see what is unfair about it, the footage is still there and it is a legit run on legit hardware. Deleting it would just devaluate the leaderboards since it is the best run and the game is not among the most popular anyway. ;)

Sorry for the late reply. As Molotok said, unfortunately the emulation on your run is too innacurate to be acceptable (the blatant glitch auto ringouts are a dead giveaway).

And yes, in regards to Janet's run. That's not how speedrunning works. As long as evidence of a run exists, it qualifies. For us to remove it, Janet would have to contact us and personally object to the run being on the board. And even if they did, we would still be entitled to leave a placeholder "anonymous" entry in their place to represent the rightful WR time for this category, so either way their WR time would still stand on this leaderboard.

Understood. I will try looking for a better version of Remix or submit a run with the OG version. In the meantime I have deleted my submission. @Molotok @Tenka.

I have re-submitted my run using the OG version. Thank you for taking the time to check it in advance @Molotok @Tenka

@B0SSCAT Hmm, I think there was some misunderstanding regarding the other version. What I meant was the Saturn, x32 or PC versions. Arcade emulation is broken on MAME as of today with hitboxes not working correctly and I did not find any other working emulator yet. So the only way to get legit runs on Arcade currently is to play on original hardware or the Astro City Mini unfortunately.

I also removed the other run that was played on emulator, it probably got forgotten after these problems were discussed some years ago.. sorry for the inconvenience.

I understood that, no worries. That is why I have re-submitted a run of the OG Virtua Fighter arcade version instead. Please check it and let me know if there is an issue with that submission as well. Thank you for your time and help @Molotok

I was referring to your latest submitted run. From what I saw it is MAME and it never had a normally working VF emulation. While they fixed some of the game physics around 4 years ago, there still are collision issues. And in older versions the physics was incorrectly emulated, you can notice that the fighters barely fly away. Hence the note in the previous post: "..the only way to get legit runs on Arcade currently is to play on original hardware or the Astro City Mini..".

Thank you for your time and help @Molotok

In this case I have deleted my runs and will not attempt to submit anything else since it has been a waste of my time at this point. I am not sure even if I bought an Astro City Mini would it be able connect to my PC or if there would be video capturing issues with Twitch Studio.

Also, I refused to buy/support anything LRG Limited Run Games releases after having to deal with them while I was working in the game industry. So the only way I'd consider purchasing the Astro City Mini is by importing the Japanese version. But again I do not know if there will be any connection issues with the PC.

@B0SSCAT You still have the possibility to play the other versions/platforms as mentioned, so no need to spend money.

And as for the Arcade emulation: While for Virtua Fighter not much can be done right now, Virtua Fighter Remix uses the Sega ST-V arcade system and I read that some emulators support it (Kronos and mednafen has some experimental support in the latest unstable version). I do not know whether these work properly and how bothersome it is to set up, but this might be a last idea.
