I never speedrunned before and i wanna start with Mario Kart Wii because that game = my childhood.

But when i see the MKWII speedruns, i think that i'll never do a great speedrun...

What game do you advise me to speedrun ? And did Mario Kart Wii is a great game to start speedruns ?

Nobody begins speedrunning by immediately producing WR-tier times. The only time you should ever be worried about beating is your own time. If MK Wii is what you would have the most fun playing, go do that.

You don't have to be great to do a speedrun. It's perfectly fine to speedrun a game when you think you can never be as good as the top players. The important thing is to enjoy doing it. Pick a game you won't get sick of. Mario Kart Wii would probably be a good one if you grew up on it. But it's really up to you.

Just start with your favorite track in MKWii if that's the game you're interested in. Make a few attempts, watch your attempts to see where you can improve, practice those parts until they're consistent, and then run the track again. Don't worry about restarting a run over little mistakes until that's all there is in your runs. Consistent practice is the key to great times.

[ZenicReverie] okay but there is only cup categories in MKWII and i'm good only at the SNES Ghost Valley 2 and very bad at the GCN Peach Beach so... [Lieutenant_Boo] when you say " You don't have to be great to do a speedrun. " Yeah that's right but if i try t upload a speedrun of a cup and the best result is very bad, people will say that i'm ridiculous. For exemple my best time a SNES Ghost Valley 2 : My best time is 1:02:332 but a normal speedrunner have less than 1 minute for best time at SNES Ghost Valley 2... [Drakodan] i don't look at MKWII world records and think i'll do better than them. My objective is not to have the WR. My objective is just to do a good time and enjoy myself to do some speedruns !

No runs get rejected for being “too slow” or something, so just submit whatever times you get and slowly improve from there. Don’t care about what other people think of your runs, just do it and have fun.

You do YOUR best. It's not rediculous. It's enough.

Anyone gives you shit about a "slow" time, refer them to me for a stern talking-to and a finger waggle.

I've never seen anyone here get ridiculed for putting in a slow time. Mostly because the people at the top of the leaderboard have played the game countless times and they started off doing no better than you when you start. Like anything in life, don't expect to be the best straight away, have fun with it and just aim at constant progress, set your own goals and criteria for your success. Some people simply don't have the free time to speedrun a game endless times to be the best and people understand that.

@TurnipWaa Constant progress will only get you so far, instead aim for constant practice. There'll be times where you don't PB for weeks, months, years, but if you're still enjoying the process, stick with it and you'll get better.

Runs HAVE been rejected for being too slow, but they shouldn't be.

You can become great. It all depends on how much time and effort you put into it. Just like anything else in life.
