Treeko Starter?

Hey, I'm a game enthusiast like most if not all of you, and I've been watching speedruns for well over a couple of years (shoutout to Werster !!) and I've noticed that all I've seen is Mudkip as a starter. Besides the obvious reason Mudkip being the best starter for speedrunning, is there even a speedrunner that has done a Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald Speedrun with Treeko as a starter?

It would be very interesting to see different strats and routes used to compensate the poor starter choice !

I hope I get a response and a video or stream of someone interested in this ! Possibly a new category ?

(Truthfully tired of seeing Mudkip in all speedruns but at the same time I don't want to watch a longplay of an amatuer playing as treeko)

There have been attempts but none have gone far (that I remeber) since its quite hard and the run would have a lot of RNG dependance. If you ever want some help with routing it make sure to hit me up though.

I think Treeko just really gets bodied by both combuskin from rival and then again at Wattson. Also can run into issues at Flannery and Winona. Even with type advantage at Roxanne, Treeko is still squished by Nosepass rock tomb without lucky bullet seed rolls (I used Treeko a bunch of times in Roxanne races back in the day- he is in theory faster in emerald up to that point, although unreliable). Good luck if you try to get a run going with Treeko :) , but it probably won't become an unofficial category.

I'm trying it out and so far your correct. Treeko is good right up to Roxanne (Barely beat Nosepass) and then got bodied by 2nd rival battle by crit. I can get past Brawly but Watson is gonna be an issue. Ralts into Kirlia might be the way to go but will most likely die to Watson. For being some peoples favorite grass starter Treeko has a really tough time after first gym

I need a vod of a treeko run so far this no bueno

Tbh I don't think anyone has seriously attempted treeko, he just gets walled everywhere- I don't think you'll find any speedy VODs anywhere. Your best bet is trying to put the puzzle pieces together yourself, but to be honest what you're trying to do isn't going to work very easily (otherwise others might have been more inclined to try?).

Definitely hard as fuck. I have knowledge of first 3 Gens and abit of Gen 4 (stopped following after Gen 4) I'm still a level 1 speed runner and doing this mostly for fun. I love Gen 3 and just wanted a change of pace (mudkip) Both you and Werster have confirmed that treeko is slow as hell and just not good.

I'll still try to run as treeko just to see if its really even possible
