JAP vs NTSC

First of all hello Pilotwings community, I absolutely love and enjoy playing this game until my thumbs hurt and it will be a pleasure posting my runs. I know this game is not popular, however I noticed that there are some differences between the NTSC and Japan releases of this game such as the obvious characters loading faster for JAP vs our North American releases. Would it be possible to categorize the two, if not separated, at least show which version is being used for the run? I feel that perhaps the Japanese version of the game may have an upper hand on load times.

I love this game as well and haven't tried the Japan version. If the game is faster then I would run that version. Should be an option when submitting a run to select what region was used. If not the mod can add that option. As far as separate categories go most boards use the fastest one if the game unless there are big differences. Like Super Mario World, the Japan version is faster due to less text in the game but u can still submit runs from any region.

I will add the region option for all runs submitted henceforth, and I'll update the regions for the runs already on the leaderboards tomorrow.

Thank you for your interest in Pilotwings! This will motivate me to submit more runs as well.

Also, it is worthy to note that Japan and North America are both NTSC regions. However, in a lot of cases, not only is the text often times faster, but they do introduce less console lag as well (Not sure if this is the case for Pilotwings yet). I can do some testing when I feel the need to order a Japanese copy of the game.

Edit: I ordered a Japanese copy of Pilotwings.

Very nice my dude. Was looking for a new speed game and this just may be it. Gonna start with 4 trainers and go from there.

Awesome! If you have questions or anything, feel free to ask me! I'll be streaming this next week so pop in if you want.

Also, I highly recommend playing the game after the First 4 Trainers to get a feel for the wind element in the second half! It'll save you a lot of headache in the long run.

I look forward to growing this speedgame. If you find anything new, post here in the forums!

Edit: Also, if there are some people that get into the game regularly, I would be down to grant mod powers because sometimes I don't check speedeun.com often enough to look through runs and I want to make sure they get accepted/rejected in a timely manner.
